I love the 2 launch methods. Much better than what I have done with Mike Hout's whip top.  It is a pity that the camera is only showing the spinner's shoes, but I love the reaction of the dog.  The kid in the blue shirt is captivated.

I don't recall seeing whip top playing in Mexico. I wonder if it is something traditional.
Whip tops were common among North American tribes. There is some debate if they were introduced by the Europeans, but at least some seem to predate the colonization.
My guess in this case is that it is of European origin, but Culin's book on native games shows one identical played by the Hopi of Arizona in 1900, so it could be indigenous to Mexico. Anyway, it may have a long history there.
