I also need to start doing that trick (parrot). It is one of those tricks that to the audience looks like pure spintop and not diabolo-like.

I showed this to my wife and she said "don't try that, you are not flexible enough".
Practice hard and play safe.

I tried the parrot trick today. It is more difficult than it looks!

I could not do it on my left shoulder. But I finally had some success on my right shoulder (I am right-handed). I am not sure if the non-dominant side is intrinsically more difficult. Salvador does it on both.

What worked for me was the following. I started with a bearing top. I did a similar movement than when binding a top from roller coaster, but lifting at the same time the hands and trying to time the "binding" so I finished it over my shoulder (if you fully bind it and then place it on the shoulder it does not look the same). After I could do it 2 out of 3 times with the bearing tip, I tried the same thing with a fixed tip: I could do it only 1 every 7 or 8 times! I need much more practice.
