I am arriving in Tokyo the 12th and staying until the 20th. I will be staying at MyStays Ochanomizu, a six-minute walk from the contest.
I plan to go to Nagoya after the contest and visit the koma museum (after making friends with the koma players at the contest  ;) ).

SEE YOU IN TOKYO!

Thanks for the advise Larry, but it won't be necessary. Mr. Yoshihito Fujita himself will come to Tokyo on Friday: he will organize and judge the traditional koma competition. I am hoping to get a private tour of his museum  ;) In fact, I wouldn't mind staying overnight in Nagoya and sleeping on the floor of the museum, surrounded by all those tops  ;D

That would make for some sweet dreams!  :)

BTW, did you notice that the Museum sells Astro Spin?

They sure look like the tops we picked up when we were in Rochester last year visiting Don.  I never knew they had a name but here is the description photo and from the Museum site:

“Product Name Manufacturer You have a cool name "Astro spin". Dead is stock goods. Spreads wings when rotated at high speed. Spread wings is safe because the round shape.  Made plastic. Cannot be selected color.”

Nice! I broke the one I got from Don trying to boomerang it  :'( I have been meaning to repair it, but it won't be easy. If I can get a new one it would be great!

So, how many top spinners can you find in that "See You in Tokyo" video?

How many are on this forum?

I don't know the definitive answers, I just came up with the questions.

I counted nine top spinners! Of course, most are primarily yo-yo players, although they can do intermediate to advanced top tricks. Only two or three ever registered in this forum, but seven are in the Figaro Gallery!

I'm scheduled for the 9th through the 20th.  The hotel I'm in is right on top of the Akihabara train station, I believe it's the Remm Akihabara.

This is the Spintop page:

 http://tokyo15.com/en/contest-divisions/spintop/

Funny that there is the photo of a BK but I don't think anybody freestyled with a Duncan in Prague.

Quote
On Saturday between the Prelim and Final Rounds, we will have a special program (trick test, contest, demo, etc.) going on at the B1 Spin Top Area organized by Japan Spinning Top Museum.
:)

Registration for spintops is JPY 3000 (about $25) plus general admission. General admission is $21 for one day, $63 for all days.

I hear that a new spintop company may be sponsoring a couple of players.  :-X

A new new company or one that we know of that just hasn't sponsored players before?  Come on, we won't tell.  ;)

New spintop company. New market. What looks like the biggest promotion ever. I just found out and I cannot tell more, but it is very exciting for the future of spintops.

By the way, this is the logo of the World Yo-Yo Contest:

Anybody wants to design one for the Top contest?

Do we have to wait until August to find out?  :(

I am guessing that it won't be long before I can talk about it. But the worlds sponsorship has not been confirmed yet or the two players selected ... I don't want to change the subject of this thread, but two other things I have heard is that YYF may come out with the "Energia" tops under a new brand name and that Spintastics is planning some radical new models by the end of the year.
