Statement of Purpose
« on: November 19, 2014, 05:19:59 PM »

We need a formal statement defining the purpose of the International TOP Spinners Association. That is basically the only thing that is required for registering as a non-profit in Texas. Applying for tax-exempt status, on the other hand, requires much more (not sure at this time if we want to go through that).

I'll start with a statement that we can correct or add to:

The purpose of the International TOP Spinners Association (TOPS) is to promote the sport, art and hobby of playing with spinning tops. This will be accomplished by facilitating the interaction of players and enthusiasts from around the world, by organizing contests and events, by serving as a repository of the different traditions and by teaching new generations of players.

Your comments are welcome  :)

hello

1 st sentence : i would put "game" before art and then sport and finally hobby

2nd sentence : the use of a passive form is not recommended in a statement

i would start the sentence with
we want or we aim at ...

another correction

.......organizing contests , workshops and events .......

and  may be a concluding statement for
" the top as a universal toy"

I am not sure how to include the universal toy part, but the rest is easy:

The purpose of the International TOP Spinners Association (TOPS) is to promote the sport, game, art and hobby of playing with spinning tops, a universal toy. We will accomplish this by facilitating the interaction of players and enthusiasts from around the world, by organizing contests, workshops and events, by serving as a repository of the different traditions and by teaching new generations of players.

I have read it several times.  It seems like it covers everything pretty well.  Good job!
