International Top Spinning Day
« on: October 08, 2014, 01:30:13 AM »

Today is the second Wednesday of October, what means it is International Top Spinning Day, as proclaimed by the Top Museum of Burlington, Wisconsin. As every year, The Top Lady (Judith Schulz) asks that you spin a top wherever you are and send her an email with a photo. She wants to reach 10,000 tops this year!  :o

This is the page for the International Top Spinning Day: www.topmuseum.org/20.html

I saw Jim of Paris listed on their webpage as participating another year.  Didn't we make a video for her one year?  I also  saw where in 2011 they had over 9,000 tops spun so maybe 10,000 is not out of the question.

Thanks for reminding us of this.  I forgot all about it.  It just so happens that there are a few tops in the Hall of Fame that were not destroyed in the last Topiata!!!

Great Mike! Just remember to take a picture!

I have ran out of tops at the office (5 7).
I am going to listen to talk after work so I will get home after dark. I need to think of a photo I can take indoors.

Wow!  Today was, by far, my most enjoyable ever International Top Spinning Day.  I carried a few little Toysmith finger spinners with me all day and talked to a lot of people about ITS Day.  After a while, I mostly used this simple line......"do you know what today is?" then I would put the top on the counter and wait to see if they would spin it.  Most of the time, the people would spin it before I told them about ITS Day.

Here are my final totals - 33 individuals and (get this) the entire boys and girls cross country team from Miamisburg including the coaches.  That was 52 on the xc team to bring the final total to 85!!!

Some people on the list include: the church organist, the choir director, the day care directors, workers from the art store, the gas station attendant, four workers from Chipotle, the bike shop man and even my wife!

In addition to all of us, a group of five of us got 66 tops spinning at the same time at youth night at the church (one top for each book of the Bible).  I have a picture of this.

I guess I can't wait until next year.

I spun off and on for about two hours today. Using 7 different tops.

Practice makes perfect.

On Wed. the 8th, I gave a 3 Premier tops I brought back from Mexico to our neighbor kids/friends.  Taught them to wrap their strings and throw spinners--they picked it right up!

My boys have been throwing too (tops and yo-yo)--almost the whole time since we returned from Chico :)
