Please can you tell me what kind of line you were using. And what kind of top? And the diameter of the top. Thank you.

I use 12 lb fishing line and a taiwanese top that is sold on ebay.                                                                                                                                             http://www.ebay.com/itm/Traditional-Taiwan-Chinese-Wood-Spinning-Top-Large-tall-5-inches-/110877240131?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d0cc6b43

After seeing this top in action it must be noted that Jim modifies the tip.  I think he replaced it with a bolt that had its threads ground off, and it had a groove cut in it to catch the line.  Jim, correct me if I'm wrong!  Oh and what sized bolt?

Yes. Its a 3/8 inch bolt with a groove on which the fishing line runs.

That would be great if you posted a picture of the top showing the special tip.

The tip is about 1 inch long. I flatten the tip so it shortens the precession and it corrects itself quickly so not to lose speed.

Thanks Mr. JNeff. Now I am going to put a new Tip on my four inch delrin just to see if it works.
I will make like a Spintastic C tip but with a 3/8 diameter. Thank you. Tips are not easy to make even with a metal lathe.

The line I use is 12lb monofilament nylon line. I make the groove on a drill press with a hack saw. Not too deep. I've made several and although they look the same to the naked eye they all do not perform the same. So make a few. Before you wrap the line around the tip, be sure the top has stop precessing. Any precession at all and it will tip over quickly while riding the line.

This is the top with the wide neck that made the 85 foot wire walker.

Fantastic Cecil!  8)

To me these very long wire walks still seem physically impossible so I am always amazed when I see them.

Beautiful top, too. You have the advantage with respect to those using the traditional Chinese top that you can boomerang it and straighten it on your hand.

I need to try it one day.

What I want to see is somebody doing a long wire walk with the line on fire  >:D
