Newcomer to forum, beginner getting restarted with a Neptuno!
« on: September 12, 2014, 10:38:43 AM »

Hey guys,

I'm a newcomer here on the forum. Decided to dig out a couple of my tops the other day and decided i needed a new one. All i had was an old red wooden one and old natural wood one. found this site! and found Turner Toys. Just received my Neptuno and after only having played with wood tops, i was SPEACHLESS. LOL. The top is beautiful. I also picked up some nice handmade wood tops on ebay from a seller in Maine. I'm looking forward to learning and participating on the forum.
Does the Neptuno not have a weight ring inside? i thought it would.
And also, i don't know any tricks. Just spinning it on the ground. What first trick do you recommend learning for starters with my Neptuno?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, Zap!

The Neptuno is a good top. Did you get the fixed tip or the bearing one?

If you have a good spinner, the next thing is getting it to the hand, either with Big Scoop or (more fun) Sky Rocket.

Big Scoop by the Spanish players:

More tutorials from the Spanish players here: www.ta0.com/forum/index.php/topic,2309.msg23736.html#msg23736

A two-handed Sky Rocket (actually more a lift) tutorial by the Czech players:

More of those tutorials on this thread: www.ta0.com/forum/index.php/topic,2811.0.html

Don't hesitate to ask for help if you get stuck.

Thanks for the tutorial videos. I'm bilingual (english and spanish) so spanish tutorials are fine for me.

I got the fixed tip Neptuno. Thought it would be best to start off simple and work my way to the bearing ones later.

So, no weight ring in the Neptuno, i guess? I guess it doesn't need it because it's already a nice weight. Thanks!
Sorry i'm totally new to this. Great form and site!  Was checking out some video here last night at a park. Amazing stuff.

Welcome to the forum Zap.
I have found that this forum has been a great encouragement and help to my top spinning hobby.  I hope that you find that to be true also.

Zap!  Cool.  I like that name.

Welcome.  We are excited to have you with us.

Dale Oliver encouraged me to give bearing tops a try fairly early in my top journey.  He said they are a great way to learn tricks.  I still enjoy watching a bearing top go round and round in a merry go round until it dies.  It is interesting to watch how it moves and reacts to your hand movement.

Good luck with your progress!

Great Advice!  I got a Spintastics Trompo Bearing as a gift when I was able to do perhaps 3 tricks.  It was the gateway to me learning the merry go round like tricks. (Which I can now do with most any top)

Thank you all so much for the tips and warm welcome to the forum! I was really surprised and happy to find this helpful and unique site.
Yes, i am actually ordering a bearing top this week. Probably a Spintastics. Had a busy weekend but will be practicing my first tricks this week and see how it goes.
Thanks everyone!!!
