Recently in the USA Today paper there was a list of the 10 best U.S. cycling towns.  The list included:
1. Davis, Calif.
2. Fort Collins, Color.
3. Minneapolis
4. Madison, Wis.
5. Greenville, S.C.
6. Chattanooga, Tenn.
7. Tucson
8. Durango, Colo.
9. Sacramento
10. Bend, Ore.

It got me to thinking about what would be the top top spinning cities.  I made some lists and am curious what others might think.  Interestingly enough, none of the above cities are on any of my lists!!!

I love these lists!  It is mind expanding to think of the top spinning activity in each of these areas.  Most especially mind expanding is ta0's world list.  Wow!  I have been looking them up and thinking about that all day.  Thanks for a great day off!!!

Originally I had Orlando on my list as it is hard for me to think of top spinning without considering that city.  But with worlds not being there, everything is different.  That is why I thought about Prague for the list but I don't know what other top spinning goes on there the rest of the year.

Tallahassee is another city that would have been on a list a few years ago with all the big top spinning names living there.  Sadly, many people moved or stopped spinning.

I can't wait to hear more of the reasons why Dasi is #1 on that one list and why some of those other cities are there.  I guess I know a lot less about world top spinning than I imagined!

Prague should probably be there to represent the Czech Republic, although neither Jakub and Daniel, nor Tyler nor Jan live there.  Mmm, what about Brno?  (Brno - Moravsky Krumalov?)

I put Kuala Lumpur as representative of Malaysia.  But, although they demonstrate giant gasings for the tourists, a town in the province of Kelantan would be much better. Let's change it for the province capital and royal seat, Kota Bharu.

Jakarta is there to represent Indonesia, but as every island has its unique top spinning, that one is probably cheating and should not be there.

Many cities in Colombia could make the list, but Medellin is the main city of the province of Antioquia where most of the players on the videos we see come from. If I recall correctly, Don Antonio is from Medellin.  Martha, Carlos and Rodrigo are from San Vicente, not far away.

Borotá, Venezuela (not Bogotá, Colombia) is the town where they have the spintop statue and the spintop race during Holy Week. But there are other towns in Venezuela that could claim the honor.

Quito, Ecuador, is the home of Don Macizo.

Nagoya, Japan, is where the Koma museum is and there is a koma spinning group around it.

Daisi, Taiwan, IS the spintop capital of the world. At least the biggest tops are spun there.

Perhaps a city from Spain should be included.  Antequera (including Mollina), with Sebastián del Pino's museum and great popularity of tops, could be included.  Or perhaps Madrid - Segovia ?

On the list of US cities, Burlington, WI, could be a candidate with the museum.

6-Cleveland
7-Indianapolis

If, indeed, Rochester deserves to be on such a list, I assure you it is because of Don Olney, and not me or any of the players I know.   :)

Does the annual RIT Juggle-In help Rochester warrant such a mention?

Well, I know of at least 2 people in Sacramento actively trying to spin tops: myself and one other person, and we're both users here and know each other.

There's one other for sure nearby, and we both know him as well.

Sacramento has a LONG ways to go. We at least have the CalState YoYo Contest(of which I run sound for), and way too much kendama activity. However, sometime in July, I'm going to try to have organized a 2-minute routine with spintop to perform at a yoyo event(that I also run sound for) to try to generate some interest. I'll be restricting myself to Bearing Kings so as to work with the event organizer, but my BK's are in fine running condition and I should have no worries.

Really? Daisi (Dasi)?  The spintop capital of the world! :o  8)
That is fantastic! I hope you can communicate well. We definitely need Dasi represented in the association. I imagine they have their own association and could become some kind of federated member.

Matt: Tallahassee was not on the list because we thought you had retired . . .

the Earl of Whirl

There was certainly a time when Tallahassee might have been the capital of top spinning in the US.....maybe the world.  Who all was there?  Matt Ritter, Steve Brown, Lao Alovus and others?  I guess Matt and Lao are still there but I did not realize that.
