That is a Roto Top (not to be confused with the Ro-To-Top).  I had never seen it re-labeled as Flying saucers, but that is obviously a sticker added to the original box.  You can see one with the original box here: www.ebay.com/itm/121077442501

I see another difference between the listings: one says manufactured by W & S Manufacturing Co. in Quakertown, PA, while the other by Weaver Manufacturing Co. in Elizabethtown, PA.  As the Flying Saucers should be the most recent, my guess is that W created the toy and then was absorbed (married ?) S and moved to Quakertown  :-\

I have one and it plays well (and noisy).

I looked into my patent folder, and I believe this top is based on US Patent # 2,068,053 from January 19, 1937.  The inventor was a certain Ernest G. Gehman from Harrisonburg, Virginia.  The patent shows exactly the same fork launcher for the tops.

However, the Flying Saucer name indicates these must have been sold at least up to the late 1940s.  There is a seller on Ebay that has a bunch of boxes-only for the Roto Top that were never used. That, plus the fact that they relabeled boxes, makes me suspect that the tops did not sell as well as they had hoped for and got stuck with unsold inventory. That is a pity because they play really well (I easily get over 1 minute spins for all three tops) and have a very nice ring sound when the metal tops hit each other.

Would love to see a picture to compare to the flying saucer top I recently posted as a "Space Ferrari top". But neither of the links given so far successfully show images..

Here is the Roto Top, but as you see, very different to your flying saucer top:

I love the bell sound they make when hitting each other. Unfortunately, the paint is not very durable.
