I got my Trottola!
« Reply #30 on: December 30, 2009, 08:00:07 PM »

I just got one of Maurizio's bearing tops: people were not exaggerating, it is a spinning beast! To boot it, I convinced Maurizio to send me one of his first dyeing experiments, including the "autograph"  ;D :

Even though the bearing is so quiet it spins for a long time and it is very stable. I have already taken advantage of the access to the bearing from the inside to invert the top on my finger and try tricks from there. It looks that is should be a great top for grinds (evil knievel?) The only thing I would change is a bigger end tip, but I think it is already in the plans.

Molte grazie Maurizio!!!

PS: Now I owe videos with Holey, Watts #214 and STB!

I have now been playing with it for about two hours. I am really impressed! I have done complex tricks like upside down corkscrew and this top can compete with any bearing top, including the YYF line. In fact, I have already created two little tricks with it! :D (a grind and a variation of Pencil Sharpener:  you'll have to wait for the video).

In addition, the more I look at it the more beautiful I find it. I would only compare it to an Eric custom top. I cannot believe this is Maurizio's first top. Italian design is well represented!

I cant pull out the tip for modding.

I doubt about tip modding. No Maurizio no. Isn't really tip modification. I'll try to sharp the inner side of the tip for invert spinning, or (second one modification) make a hole to spin the inverted top in the tip of a pencil.

I am also thinking on something like that. But for now I am modding my finger  ;D

Yes, yes, something like that  :)
There could be different screw-ons. Like a cone for pencil sharpener.

You'll be wellcome.

I think the bolt is so hard, and I'll need to hold firmly the tip with something. But as the tip is made of a soft material, I believe hurt the tip.

This is really strange, because i made the bolt by myseself and it isn't precise, in fact i screw it without clamps, only by hand... anyway, you can damage the bolt, you have a wondeful lathe knocking on your (heaven) door ;-)
