Richard Williams
« on: October 11, 2012, 11:00:30 PM »

Occasionally I will check the yoyoing.com forum even though it doesn't get much traffic. I was very sad to see a post about the passing of Richard Williams (UtahYoyo). He was the moderator of the Buttons N String message board. Very sad news indeed. May he rest in peace.

This is so sad.  I never met him in person but we communicated many times by email.  Button-n-String was my online home for a long time.

I may be wrong, but I believe he was much younger than me.  Life is too short.

Button-n-String was where I first learned how to do anything more than just throw the top to the floor.  What a thrill it was to go on there and hear of the amazing exploits of those accomplished spinners.  I dreamed of one day being able to just do a couple tricks.  It was thanks to their excitement and tips that I learned way more than I ever thought I would in those first few years.  I think it was also on that forum where we started talking about having a festival here in Miamisburg.

I, too, am sad about Richard Williams passing.  Peace and condolences to all his friends and family.

I vote that this thread be moved to the top spinning section of the board!

Note from admin: Spinningray originally posted this on the spinning section, where it probably rightly belongs.  But I moved it here because of its sadness.  I imagine most people come to the forum to get away from the troubles of daily life by entertaining their favorite toy and I did not want this to be the first thing they see.  Anyways, it will take longer for the thread to be buried by other topics here.

I see.

I could not find his age but I did see he had been battling cancer.

I did not know of Richard Williams or his involvement with Button-n-String.  That forum was what kept me interested in top spinning and where I saw all the greats.  For that I am grateful to him and am sad at his demise.

I finally found him.  Somewhere along the line I saw where he was from Spanish Fork, Utah.  When I tied that town in with his name more information came up.  He was just 49.  The link below has his obituary and a picture of him:

Thanks for finding and posting the link Mike.

Richard is responsible for allowing me to meet many of you. I am grateful for that.
