More tops from Tim
« Reply #19 on: February 12, 2020, 10:37:19 PM »

Tim's been showing a lot of tops lately...

Here, he features the "Non Toppling Top" first discussed here on this forum and still sold as the Balancing Taorenado on Spingear.

https://youtu.be/Q440ijHBH9M

These look like a lot of fun. I've made LEGO tops with similar behavior. They just don't stay up as long. (It's all about dialing in the right CM height and TMI/AMI ratio with the right ball tip. Tim states at 0:48 that a "physics friend" told him that the top's resistance to being knocked over is due to a "very low center of gravity". But my experiments show otherwise. Too low or too high a center of gravity, and you don't get this behavior.)

And from the 2020 Nuremburg Toy Fair, first a spindulum featuring a hanging, spinning globe. Then some interesting true tops...

Enjoy!

EDIT: I hadn't seen that Jeremy had already posted the 2020 Nuremburg Toy Fair video, so I am now merging it with this.
==============

Surprisingly, I got the first three!  :o
Somebody who came from Germany gave me the earth top years ago. I don't have the sun to hang it from, but it works well as a regular top.
The second is the Sakura top that Spingear sells. I love it.
The blow top I got thanks to Renee's review  :)

PS: A post on the channel says that due to the corona virus Tim will stay home and not film videos for a while.

Think I'll leave a comment on that video telling Tim how much we enjoy his videos. And to keep the tops coming -- once it's safe.

PS: Message I left for Tim...

Great idea Jeremy!

I didn't ask Ludo or Jim how far went their attempt to invite Tim to Marines. But I surely would like to meet him one day.
I have been following him since just before I started collecting tops, in 1998:

There was never a Vol. 2, but then youtube was created (well, 7 years later!).
