Thanks for the link Zeemo.  I thought it was going to be just a giant finger top, but when she lifted the post off the top to reveal its' true design, I was impressed.

Here's a video of what looks like maybe a prototype of another design:

With a bit of balance, it would have spun for a very long time.  They were enjoying the top by the look on their faces.

It's nice to find out that tops are a thesis topic, but I must say that I was not very impressed by these....
I don't mean to criticize (I find that tops are wonderful in all of their appearances), but the only part that really awoke my interest was when the guy tried to do something with the coin, even though not successfully.

That sort of gave me an idea... Shaping the sides of the top part a bit differently, and with a bit of carving and painting, the top could become a spinning roulette!
You could put a ball, rather than a coin, in it, once thrown, and gamble on which number will come out... ;D

nice find Zeemo , thanx !

for the size and quality of workmanship
the time of spin is bit short
it might be the tip , too pointy, the shaft/the handle : too long
 a beautiful spinning top anyway!

I would think it might do better if the rope were wound around a smaller shaft.  If she were to hold a tube over the top half of a shaft and the rope were wound around the lower half during the start.  Then lift the tube off.  And yes, he should have pulled lower and faster.  Still, looks looks like fun to me.

For non-acrobatic tops that only spin on the ground, sometimes some wobble seems to enhance the campfire effect... people just stare at it like they are watching a campfire.

Thanks Chris, I could never find the right analogy as to why people will watch a top spin till it drops.  The 'campfire effect' is a good one.

Really nice. :)
Pleasing shape, certainly artistic.

Look what it did to the floor!
I'm inclined to agree with Jim -"might be... too pointy" .  (Ouch!)  :o

Thanks for bringing us this posting Zeemo.

By following some links I got by chance back to her website and found she has a second giant top for sale for $250, but this is more a traditional (but oversize) finger top:

More interesting are her dreamer tops (but I don't see a price):

Cecil the narrowness of your vision for spin tops never ceases to amaze me.

I think Cecil is just challenging us to visit him for some top battles. He is embodying the character of Lug Ditka  :D

dear all
the expression "fire wood " fits with Chris ' vision of a top creating the "the campfire effect... "
 ;) ;)
(see the previous posts )
now for the narrowness of the remark : i  partly agree but sometimes the words are in themselves too narrow  to express what the interlocutor thinks

cecil : you're in for more dialectic ;D

I like to laugh. I can't get any feedback on you tube. But it seems fire wood is working. I love the Nimbus and the Black Walnut by Erick. And I'm OLD.

I enjoy the surliness of Mr. Cecil  ;D   I was only helping him celebrate is position  ::)

Like Cecil wants to see more Columbia play in the States, I would like to see more western play in Cecil.

I agree with Cecil more than I let on; I have little interest in finger spinners, and after playing with bigger tops, anything under 4" can seem lackluster sometimes.  This forum helps me try to maintain a broader view.

Cecil, you and I ain't no Socrates, but we are much younger :)

I stumbled upon this fun image on eBay.
It seems that the "Top for Two" idea is not so new.

Edit: I just noticed the "man in the top" face
