Great routine!  I've seen another video of Felipe on the streets performing. I don't speak Spanish, but I understand 'Perfecto' when the judges were speaking.   ;D

Hope he continues to win the competition.

The ropes they use with those tops are so long!

czyoyo

WOW! I hope he wins! he sure deserves it. :o

Definitely talented!

Thanks Jim.

Curious that the initial top he uses has the cap end 'tip' removed and the metal tip clearly has a string groove.

Here is the next round of competition, I assume.  A little more nerves got the better of him. :'( Nice shirt though.
Colombia Tiene Talento - Felipe Gaspar Cortes ' SHOW DE TROMPO ' 12 Gran Gala - 28 de Marzo de 2012.

The early round also featured a spintop duo.

im 6 2 and have my string extremely long, i prefer it that way but these guys got me beat by a mile! anyone who has ever tried one of my tops, says that the string is too long. now i can tell them i have seen longer..., much longer.

poptop

These guys are all really good.  Big solid tops are a challenge to handle, let alone play at this level.  Right on.

This is a concert with similar tops. Circus!

We had discussed the circus show (from Venezuela but using Colombian performers) before (here) and Mike loved it!  ;D
Gus mentioned them to me as he personally knows them. By the way, if I understood correctly, Gus invented the top-to-the-spoon trick, as he did the top-on-the-glasses trick.

I am still amazed by how high those tops climb!  :o

What?  I loved this!!!  I can't recall it.

(just joking - I do remember this!)

Herney is competing this week in Colombia's talent show.  He is the player from the original Taka video (at the time he had long hair) and the one who was going to come to worlds in 2008 but his visa was denied.  I am guessing that the TV station is responsible for the way he is dressing and the staging (including painting the tops) as they are really professional.  I like his first presentation with "black" (UV) lighting:

Colombia Tiene Talento 2T - HERNEY DJ - GALAS EN VIVO - 2 de Julio de 2013.

I did not like as much (and he made mistakes) in the following presentations where he also used a yoyo and a diabolo.  But I believe he is still in the running, at least until tonight when from 8 finalists out of the original 80 acts, 2 more will be eliminated.

It is curious to see him use a Japanese Koma for the corkscrew at 1:18.

I bet that was a gift from Taka when he filmed him in 2006:

Taka took back to Japan one of their tops and here is footage of him throwing it filmed with a high-speed camera:

Enrique Leal remembers Taka and they will meet again at worlds.  Maybe an opportunity to discuss having Japan in the future Spintop Players INternational Federation  ;)

Herney passed to the finals of the talent show.  He did a routine dressed like a ninja, but half was with a yo-yo and the other half he threw tops at vases.  It reminded me one of Taka's routines in AP (coincidence?) I didn't think it was great (nor did the jury I suspect) but it was different and funny. I think he has a lot of public behind him and he also gives variety to the competition so they want him on the show. The great thing is that spintops are in one of the most popular shows in Colombia.

Speaking of what, I am told that the two main TV chains in Colombia are going to have a piece August 5th on the two young players we are sponsoring, Martha and Carlos, and their trip to the world contest in Orlando! That is just the type of exposure we were trying to get for top play.  ;D
