Looking for feedback.
« on: April 20, 2012, 08:29:59 PM »

In conversation with Thad at US National Yo-Yo & Spin Top Contest I mentioned that I thought we needed a new Spin Top patch.  Last year I bought the last of the 2002 patches they had.  Yes it took that long to sell the minimum order.  So I have talked to Thad again to see what can be done.  He requested feedback from the Spin Top community so here is your chance to get your 2 cents in the discussion.

What shape should it be?  Last one was the profile of a top.  Should it be round with a top in the middle?  Do we need a year?  Do we need US Nationals?  What should it say?  What would be good for international sales?  I use the National Yo-Yo Contest patch on the chest of my shirts (that I get at the thrift store) and put the top patch on the sleeve.  It starts a lot of conversations.

Please join in this discussion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Need help convincing them to do something.

I never did get one of these patches but I would be interested in some.  How much were they?

Ask and you receive.  This is the shirt I wore today at a health fair, the ladies asked and I did some tricks for them.  Always works.  :D

I really like the patch in the shape of a top.  I prefer it to the round shape.  I think it would be nicer if it was a little bigger than the 2002 patch (I am talking form memory because right now I cannot find mine).  Considering how slowly it sold, we probably need one that does not show the year.

By the way, Gerardo Montero loved the design which is basically the same as shown on the US nats site. He used put the US logo  ??? to both sides of his name on the emails we exchanged when we were trying to bring him to worlds, a few years ago.

I like the suggestion of the omission of a year give the 9 years it took to sell out the last ones.

Must it be "National"?  Could it be a more generic patch?
Perhaps something like:
Global Spin Top Revolution;
Global Spin Top Renaissance;
Global Spin Top Revival;
might be some words to consider including?

I like the idea of a round patch with a top in the middle but the top should be shown at an angle.
(Similar to those on the upper right of the Forum home page).

This patch in particular would be made Bird-in-Hand/Yo-Yo National Museum for the US Nats and they will want it to say National.

Lots of patches are round. A spintop shaped patch is much more unique.

Okay, so now we know why I don't design patches.  :)

I hope the next design is unique enough to sell out in less than nine years.  ???

I would rather buy a shirt than a patch, I would wear the shirt much more than I ever would a patch.

+1 for spin top shaped patch.  I wish I had picked up one of the older ones...

I think the red white and blue theme and something with a "nostalgic" flair is what I'd most like to see.  I'll buy some.  It does seem like omitting the year is the smart think to do.

Although I like the top shaped patch, I'm with Neff on the shirt. :-\

For me a patch would sit in a drawer while a shirt would be worn often. :)

Iron the patch onto a shirt. They do have irons in the CR, no?  >:D
