Good question, Mike! I guess this would be a good time to start planning, even though things like Flatland will happen before. The priority would be to set the final format for this year so people can practice: separate divisions?, etc.

By the way, I need to write to Greg about the new developments with Cometa.

Sounds liek a fine plan.

When you chat with Greg, you might also ask him for the old topspinning.com files before they are lost to posterity.  It has been down for a long while now.   :(

If anybody is in contact with Greg, ask him where worlds 2013 will be.  :-\

I have heard sooo many rumors about Prague, I don't know what's true. ::)

I talked extensively with Greg at last worlds about it. I came out convinced that for the foreseeable future he will continue to host a world yo-yo contest in Orlando. If the Czech association goes ahead with their proposal in 2013, it will be an alternate world yo-yo contest. So, as it  has happened in other sports, there may be different people claiming the same world title. Both contests would have top caliber players, I am sure. Regarding the world spintop contest we are currently a much smaller community and I cannot see more that one real world contest. Wherever Gus decides to compete, I guess  ;) By the way, Antonio Cortes asked me if Cometa could, in principle, sponsor a world contest in Mexico next year.  I noted that players should be able to use spintops of any brand and he agreed.

Does there have to be only one world championship every year?

I think so. Given the title. Although the baseball World Series is a bit of a farce. Maybe there can be multiple world championships and each world champion can submit a video to be judged by those who are qualified as a means of uniting the belts. Then we can call that person the Champion of the World or The World Champions' Champion.

It seems a bit weird to have two different world champions the same year. But in miss contests they find Miss World and Miss Universer, maybe we should have the Universe championships :P

Along with Miss World and Miss Universe I found Miss International and Miss Earth. I have seen the terms Global championships and Open championships.  At one time I had thought about something like topspinning.com world championships, of course that URL is now gone.  Here in Miamisburg we have been using the term "Whirled Championships".

Somewhere I remember reading some talk about what we are doing being called acrobatic top spinning.  How about world acrobatic top spinning championships or some form of that?

Interestingly enough, when I searched acrobatic top spinning I found this video:

Yes, good find that Japanese street performer.  I don't have any tops with such a long tip, but I want one (do you have one to trade, Don?  ;) )

Pulp was the creator of the adjective "acrobatic" for our style of play, to differentiate it from playing on the ground. Others have started using it, at least in Spain (Trompo Acrobático.) Pulp is pretty good at naming/renaming tricks.
