press article (bitter sweet)
« on: March 24, 2012, 04:57:44 AM »

hi all
as i've already told you that the place where my workshop was ,is about to be expelled ....
we had the honor of an article in the biggest daily newspaper "Le Parisien"
visible here
http://lecarrosse.wordpress.com/
the content is rather hard on us, saying that we rent the 2000sq feet and that we are a "little entreprise", they mention cultural projects, the poor sanitary conditions and end by saying that the police will soon finish the job ...indeed, most painters and artists have moved out their gear, this weekend seems to be the last one before..the final shut down

One would think Paris would be more supportive of collaborative artistic space.
I wish you good fortune on finding a new one.

Sorry about that Jim.
What do they mean by saying that the city wants to convert the place into a "crèche"?

thanx for your support
a "crèche"? is a state-run institution to take care of young children from 1st age to 5years ,everyone can benefit from this service
it was imposed by the Front Populaire in 1936 with the creation of PMI= "protection maternelle et infantile"

the truth is that the city is already building one more crèche 2 streets away BUT saying that the Carrosse will close to favor a social project is an unfair statement , because no such project exists; it's an insidious justification

Sorry to hear that the city went through with it.  Hopefully your show went well tonight.  I see that they called you "Jim, Champion of Tops" in the article.  Were you able to find someplace to store all your stuff from the shop at?

yeah we had hoped for a last minute savior but nothing happened
the wood lathe, the tools , woods and machines had been secured in advance at my pal's  Ludo
the thing is that i was on the way to start- to "hollowing" which is a real step further in tops making and needs time and a lot of practice ...besides..I had some orders going ...now: no more access to a workshop which really is a pain in the neck
the worst is for the 4 people who lived there
one sleeps in a truck , one is hosted by family,  2 are "submarines" in a new squatted place ....

the show went ok, the cops knew how upset we were, they let it go until11pm.. we got over 200 signatures on a petition for reopening  :P

Jim, check out this web site.  http://www.artomatic.org/  It is not permanent but it may be an idea to float over there and see what you can do with it.

thanks for the link , Dick  :)
it seems to be a very active project !
and when I read "Funded in part by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities"it's obvious that getting support from established institutions makes things a lot easier ////
