Glad to hear Byron Watts will be there.  The dots are a perfect addition.  It is fun to hear of all the progress.

I don't want to sound like a smart alec......but that top looks so big that it appears it can't get out of the building without tearing a wall and part of the roof down.  Please tell me there is an opening on the other side of the room (not in the picture) that is big enough to allow you to take the top out in one piece!

Thanks to you all for so much encouragement already.  Been a bit absorbed this morning.  So much to get together and the video documentary going on at the same time.  Lots of other photo seekers showing up too!  Resting a bit before getting back out there.  Almost 2 p.m. here so about 20 hours to go till launch.  Hmmmm, still have not been able to test the winch, cable is being installed but the stand it is on is not anchored yet.  Top still in the building.  Hope to bring it out in a couple of hours.  No we don't have to take down a wall but we did have to break up some already poured floor and dig down to make enough room to get it out. We had the right dimensions of the opening in a straight line measure but the bulk of the top does not allow for any sneaky maneuvering so had to open it up more, easier to go down than to mess with dismantling the steel roof trusses!  Trevor has a plan for moving it which I entirely don't understand, but the paint job is his baby so I am sure due caution will be observed!  Just finished and now installing the upper bearing holder and the pulley to raise and lower the bearing as necessary.

Looks like the trial run will end up being the actual attempt.  Guess that is the way it should be.

I guess that can be seen in the first picture.  This must be another first!

Crossing fingers here!

Yes, digging into the ground to have enough space for a top to get out of a building is very very unique.  It is a good addition to an already great story.

Good morning all!  4:30 a.m. here the morning of the attempt. In about 6 hours we should know if the planning and preparation will bear fruit in a free-standing spinning largest top ever.  Yesterday was exciting and tense.  Trevor had made a skid of curved 2-inch pipe to bring the top to the site.  It went remarkably well.  Getting it up on the launch platform was another story.  Incredibly awkward to move into position but after repeated attempts and adjustments finally got it up into position.  It is so beautiful.  Can actually spin it slowly by hand by gripping the launch spool.  BUT- still have not tested the winch!  The winch stand was reinforced and  anchored down during the night while I slept.  The 3-inch bolts we had someone buy to affix it to the stand turned out to be 2-inch bolts and didn't discover it till after all the stores were closed.  One of our staff will be at the hardware store when it opens 8 a.m. Talk about cutting things close! Have a lot of measuring to do for the launch rope, will try to do that while waiting for the bolts. Will be out there 7 a.m.  Have a ton of people coming and lots of interviews so probably can't post till later today.  Byron will probably have some posts up on FB sooner.  Thanks again for all the encouragement!

Wow! It reminds me a Saturn V rocket in the launch pad: powerful and scary . . .  The countdown has started . . .
