Curiosity has gotten the better of me. What is a squatt?

well it's an illegal occupation of a building
we call it temporary re-appropriation of a common good for artistic purposes

the place where i have my workshop used to be a body shop for cars
i was closed in the early nineties,
the first group of squatters mostly painters ,settled in the place in 2003
4 years later the City bought the building to renovate it....since then nothing has happened, the various projects are too costly, and we have been told that the building would be demolished sooner or later
we are now discussing the possibility of a relocation

link here

http://lecarrosse.wordpress.com/presentation/
among the list of people , only 5 actually live full time there
the rest comes to work and help organizing projects
during the day we have more and more people from the neighborhood who come, just to talk ,bring us things or borrow a book
the "authorities" police and justice have visited the place many times
there is a lawsuit against the collective but no threat of a hard closing down

jim (fingers crossed)

Spring has begun here in the California Bay Area.  Bulbs are already beginning to flower and most of our trees are full of blossoms .... It's Crazy!

I bragged about our warmer weather and then we had snow.  It wasn't much snow, but at least it reminded us around there that we still have some winter to go.

Glad you are enjoying nice weather out in the Bay area, SpinQueen.

I have seen several pictures in the paper about how Europe is in the midst of an historically cold winter.  Lots of ice pictures.  They even had some articles about how cold it is in Rome.  Maybe some of our European spinners can enlighten us about all of this?
