So long Daisy. I will miss you!
« on: February 01, 2012, 02:16:35 PM »

I have never been much of a pet person.  We grew up without many of the extras of life and a pet was a luxury.  So, consequently I never grew very attached to the concept of animals and pets around.  When I married Dawn, she had a dog that everyone (she and her two girls) loved.  I wasn't too keen on the dog idea, but I tried to play along.  Dagnabbit if that dog didn't adopt me as her friend and followed me everywhere.  She has been a good companion for eleven years.  She even tried top spinning with me, but never totally warmed up to the idea.  There were just too many times that the top (in the upside down frisbee she held in her mouth) came back and hit her nose.  But through the years, she did learn to put up with me setting a spinning trompo bearing on her back or on her head.

Today she was taken to the vet and we were told she has too many serious problems with her and she is in constant pain.  The vet said if she were her dog she would put her down.  It has been a hard day.  We did bring her remains home and she is now buried in a back corner of Topland.  I never thought a dog would touch my life this way.  We have a lot of good memories (and some bad ones from her urinating down on the winter home of the Hall of Fame).  So long Daisy.  I will miss you!

Mike, words always fail me at times like this. The love that a pet gives is always unconditional and the loss of that love hurts the heart.  I didn't have to meet Daisy to know this.  My sincere condolenses to you and your family.

Now I regret not putting this thread in the spintop section of the forum.  After thinking about it, Daisy had some pretty good top spinning connections.  How many dogs can claim they were petted by the likes of world competitors like:

Dale Oliver
Matt Ritter
ta0
Takeshi Kamisato
Mark Hayward
John Buechele
Alex and Chris from Louisville
Matt Byam
Mike Hout
Dick Stohr - world champion judge!

Other Duncan staff:
Hank Freeman
Brandon Jackson

And other accomplished top spinners like:
Joe Hout
David Gore
John Marcus
Bryan Hemingway
Aaron formerly from Cincy
Tai-Min from Tailand
Patrick from Cincy

Who did I miss?

She definitely deserves a place in the Top Spinning Hall of Fame!

For Daisy:

I guess her picture should be by a YYJ Topdog at the Hall of Fame.

Forgive me if it is to soon to bring this up, but you will be able to reclaim your basement for winter practice . . .

hello Mike

very impressive list !! it makes me dream :-* :-*

i've never had a dog
once a dog ate my kite at Berck in 1991
later a dog took a bite on my spintop, munched it and rejected the pieces with a grin in 2004 at Carvin juggling festival
best memory is "Pilule" (pill) this teckel I had promised to take care of for an aunt: in '74, I took her to see the movie American graffiti, she totally behaved , just shaking her long ears at the sound of rock'n'roll

true story!!
dogs are to be respected
RIP Daisy

Mike,

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss.  I pray you are well.  Daisy will be missed.

GB,
