comic book festival (report)
« on: January 30, 2012, 05:42:34 AM »

Hi all

l was on duty this saturday for demos at the comic book festival in  Angoulème
there was a huge exhibit on the works of Art Spiegelman
creator of RAW magazine and the 2 volumes of Maus

I was in the main area with established publishers ,Dargaud , casterman , Futuropolis, Heavy Metal etc ....
i had been hired  to entertain the people waiting for a "dedicace" =a signature from the author
there were long rows of fanatics used to waiting an hour of so , to get the graal of comics : an autograph with a special drawing.....some would do that very fast and others would ask questions ; your name , what do you want me to draw ..etc
i played yoyo tops and diabolo ......once in a while the security guy would tell me to stop because the people watching would block the fluidity of the hall
at the end of the afternoon i went to the buiding where the taiwanese were guests of honor:
it was fun to hear that they do exactly like the Koreans and the japanese with long OOOOHHHH , or ROOOHHH, when they enjoy the tricks

I came back home (2.20 H in high speed train)
 totally washed out

but good fun , a check in the pocket , new contacts ahead

like usual no photos , but hopefully i'll receive some from strangers

Thanks for the report, Jim.  Glad it went well except for blocking the flow of traffic.  I have been told to stop several times for that, too!

I love working trade shows, you can get a way with all kinds of jokes and things that are fun, plus getting paid.
Practice hard and play safe.
