Ahhh.  My oldest son Ben is finally married.  All my boys are now married.  Next up will be two step daughters.

It was a nice wedding and a great reception.  When the parents came down the aisle to "The Rainbow Connection" I could not keep the tears back.  This was a song I played on the piano for the boys when they were little and we used to sing it all the time.  Now my first born was using it in his wedding with words like "someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me."  After a long long trek, my little Ben finally found his rainbow connection.

At the reception I once again was able to talk with Chico's physics man, Chris Gaffney.  I gave him two tops to take home and showed him my pool ball top with the number one on it.  With his new spinning items I included a card with itopspin.com on it along with topspinning.com.  I also told him how to get to the thread about him on this forum.  We talked one more time about the highly respected postion that tops and their spinning have in the world of physics.  "It is a long, rich tradition" he added.

His last words to me were "See you in Chico!"

The Horticulture professor at Cal Poly is Dan Lassanske.  He has an absolutely amazing collection of tops - all organized and displayed in a most professional way!  At least I assume they still are.  I did hear that an earthquake broke most if not all of his glass shelves, creating quite a mess some time back.  I have a nice collection of photos from my visit back in the late 1980's?  Maybe some day I'll set up and scan those old film based photos to share.

I was in Chico today for my birthday. Bob showed me the museum. I texted Jorge a picture of his top. They have an unthrown HP that they would not let go for 200 bucks. I will offer more next time.

Great story, Early Whirly.

Great trip for your birthday, SirBoot32.  Happy birthday!!!

Thanks for the kind words and the fun Early Whirly.

Looks like Chico and Atascadero aren't really as close as I first thought.  They are 350 miles from each other and about a six hour drive.  That California is one big state!

I am glad your drive to northern California from south Texas went well, SirBoot32. I guess you will have to visit your parents again the first week of October  ;) Maybe you can get something to display on the museum as well . . .

That is the reason I have not done it yet.  Although the Academy would be a nice stop in between . . .

It looks like somebody is seriously planning a trip to Chico next year  8)  I suggest you rent a topless car  ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, but the SpinQueen and I are about half way between the two destinations!

If you've never made the drive along the Pacific Coast road from Monterey (20 min from where I live) to San Louis Obispo (near Atascadero, location of Cal Poly), this would be another good reason to make the trip (in your topless car of course).  Also, the Aquarium in Monterey is whirled renown. ;)
