"How do you get your tops going?" I begin to launch into a long explanation about the string and the wind and the spin and the tricks and the fun and the competition and, did I mention, I am the world champion. Dagnabbit, I didn't mean to say that last part again. I shouldn't be so defensive.
"So, you keep it going on a string? How do you compete?" I felt myself pulled into another long explanation about freestyles, and three minutes and scoring and judging and tricks and regeneration and more. I have to change this conversation around, I thought to myself. By the way, I said, where are you from?"
"I am from California. A little town named Chico..........."
