Schreiber and the guy in the pink shirt
« on: December 06, 2011, 05:01:59 PM »

Here is a picture from the 70's of Rev. Jim Schreiber spinning a large top on a girl's hand:

The man in the pink shirt looks familiar  ;)

A well known top player . . .
One more clue: the brother of the girl is also a top player . . .

Do you need more clues? The girl is the cousin of the niece of top maker.

Could that guy in the pink shirt still throw tops and make tops?

What do you think the year of this is?

It sounds like some of you may be on the right track.

The year was around 1973.

One more clue: I am thinking that one of the boys in the picture is a member of the board (need corroboration on that).

Unfortunately, the man in the pink shirt is not throwing or making tops at this time.

Confirmed: at least one of the boys in the picture is a member of this forum.

I you think you know the answer, don't hold back anymore: who is the man in the pink shirt?  ???

Finally somebody dares to say the name! Yes, Jon is right. The man in the pink shirt is "Watt's Tops"!

On my last post I put a misdirection: he is not throwing or making tops at this time, but just temporarily, while his arm or hand gets better.

So, the girl is his daughter and one of the boys behind Schreiber is her brother Byron, who is also a member of the board.

What else can you tell us, Walt?

Jim came to our little church about once a year and had a top presentation.  This however was after I had left and was home for a visit.
He is really the grandfather of today's American top spinning, at least for some.  I think this is the only picture I have of Jim in action aside from his video.
I directed my daughter to visit the site and see who she could find.  She did and said, "That's me".  She wanted to leave that information but said she couldn't find a place to write.  I informed her she had to be a member to post and that I would relay the information.

Concerning the shoulder.  It is improving after surgery.  Had rotator cuff repairs.  Not ready to do any top  stuff yet.
