Yeah...but, given what Guy Fawkes was fighting for, I don't know that he is the best symbol for those striving for a transparent government. Fawkes wasn't trying to destroy a corrupt government, he was trying to get rid of James I so that the Catholics could regain power in England following the Protestant Revolution (in one way or another the Spanish and the Catholic church had been trying to do that since Henry VIII formed his own religion so he could get rid of Catherine of Aragon for Ann Boleyn). As you may know, The Church was not exactly known for its transparency.

I apologize, for some reason Guy Fawkes gets me all fired up.  >:D

I am not sure the use of the mask has to do much with the historic Fawkes but to the plot of the movie V for Vendetta.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but it seems it is about a revolution in 2020 against a totalitarian government in Britain. On a key scene thousands of people march using Fawkes masks.
