Newbie Question Alert
« on: May 05, 2011, 11:44:51 PM »

Standby all you season veterans Newbie Question Alert.  On Tops like Watts Tops
I noticed measurements like 3 inch, 4  inch, 5 inch. Is that the measurement from the tip to the top or circumference of the top or diameter of the top?
Sorry I just don't know

Thanks Mike

I just measured the 2 watts tops I have.  It appears that the measurement is height and width.  The 4 inch was 4 tall (not including the tip) and 4 wide.  The 5 inch was 5 tall and 5 wide.  Hope that helps.

The diameter is usually the measurement referred too.  Watts really likes to keep his dimensions the same.  There are several posts about proportion you could check out if you've got time to search.

Just to clarify, we welcome newbie questions in this board. Neff was not implying that you should had searched for the answer before asking (which I don't think was too easy to find, anyway.) He was just suggesting that you could find further info in other threads.

Mr Tao & Mr Neff
I appreciate all the help, as for the search engines I would have used them.
However to be honest, I did not think about them until after I posted the question.
Thanks for all the help and looking forward to Worlds. Hope to see you there.

Here's the link I was thinking about.

http://www.ta0.com/forum/index.php?topic=582.msg4788#msg4788

It's not about your original question really, it's more of a tangent topic about the relationship of height an width.

Please continue to post whatever questions come to mind, we like to type :D

A late comer to this thread.  Yes, Watts' Tops are measured  4" x 4" without the point.  The point adds about an inch to the height.
The same would be true of 5, 6, 7, or 8" only the point gets larger with these and therefore longer.
And yes Chris, I do try keeping my measurements the same.  I know what works and have been following that pattern for many years.  Let the younger guys do the experimenting which they are doing very well. :)
