FYI
While the drawing date for this raffle is April 16th, I will be returning from Italy on the 18th, so shipping of the top to the winner will be delayed by a couple of days.

<This is a totally gratuitous posting designed only to get the INEPPT raffle topic back on the top of the heap!>

The prize is fabulous.  The price is reasonable.  The odds are excellent.

As they say on the Yahoo stock message boards: Are You In?!”

So, to keep up with tradition, I have something to add to this raffle as well.

I've started using PVC instead of wood.  It is an exterior trim or molding product, which comes in various profiles but fortunately also comes in flat planks.  It cuts on the lathe very easily an as you might guess, it also will dent when it hits sharp objects, but it won't check, warp, chip, or split like wood will, and it's weight is similar to that of plywood, nice and light, and UNIFORM, pretty easy to balance.

Anyway, this is the first top I made with it, it is a 4" diameter, 5-1/2" tall 232 gram top with a steel-reinforced HDPE tip.  I've also changed the way I do the tips so that the steel shouldn't sink into the HDPE.  The paint is the same paint that is on the front door of my house.  As you can see in the picture it likes to collect marks form where it has been.  Maybe you'd like to put a few marks on it yourself?

Another twofer!  This just gets better and better.

Chris, are you glueing up planks of this PVC?  How thick are the planks?

Chris's new top will be a consolation prize! We are doubling your chances of getting lucky! Now with just two tickets you have (almost) 1 chance in 25 of getting at least this great player's big top! (looks pretty indestructible to me).

This is how it works:

We will use the following Texas Pick-3 game after the one in which Eric's top is awarded, with exactly the same rules. Unless there is no winner Saturday at noon (in the unlikely case that not all tickets are sold), the second prize will be known that same night: April 16th at 10:12 p.m CDT.

Good luck! (but now you need half as much!  8) )

PVC?  Very clever.  I am anxious to try it.  Good thinking, Chris.

Neffy Bopper built a beater
But this beater is bitter !
If I bump it with my batter
It will make my batter bitter
So chris put a bit of better butter in the bitter beater

For us non-chemists...
High-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polyethylene high-density (PEHD)
A very tough plastic!

So here's a quick video of it in action!

...and a picture for scale (the red top is one of yocephus' original Diet RC's, complete with shaved sides):

PVC placks cutted, glued and turned?
Yes.  The PVC material comes in 7-1/4" wide planks 16 feet long.  They are 7/8" thick.  They come with a fake wood texture on one side that I used a planer at work to scrape off.  I use the manufacturer's glue to laminate squares or octagons together.  The glue appears similar to regular pvc pipe glue.
