Really cool tops.  I love the engineering involved.
Newbie question to the pros: has anyone every fabricated a top wherein a weight such as that was free to traverse up the axle?
Is there an advantage to having a weight that starts low (encourages the top to land true) and moves upward to the section with the largest diameter (encourages stability and spin duration)?
Also, has anyone included centrifugal mechanism (e.g. like a centrifugal clutch) to allow the weight to be distributed outward?
Thanks.

Personally, I am not sure of the advantages of the adjustment of the height of the center of gravity. But I can see lots of modding possibilities using the threaded shaft.

I know a certain topper-snapper who's kinda finicky about his string length (hint: it's his birthday today).

Now he can "simply" adjust the whirly-weighty-thingy to suit; higher for longer string, lower for shorter string.  Ha!

Looking forward to trying these.  Nice work Javier, very nice!

That's a good idea poptop, it hadn't occurred to me yet.

Do you mean a weight that would move up or down while the top is spinning? No, I don't know of any top like that. The Jupiter adjustable center of mass idea was inspired by pizquie's prototype and he just did it to experiment.

There have been tops with mechanisms like that to protrude spikes for fighting or wings for flying, but not to adjust the playability. Moving a weight out will slow the top and moving it in will speed it up. But the total rotational momentum doesn't change nor would the spin duration (neglecting friction changes).

Javier Caballero posted quite a bit more information on the thinking behind the design including these nice photographs of a Jupiter cutout:

He contacted me to organize a group shipment to the US so we can all save on shipment. As soon as I know prices and how it works I will announce it on the "what you want / what you" have section.

That bearing tip looks awefully like the infamous Spintastics Blizzard Tip, hopefully this one wont fall off like the Blizzard's one do.
Otherwise the top looks like an impressive design effort, I am wondering what the internal weight will do for the game.

What type of tricks will benefit from having the weight on the high side (high center of gravity)?

It seems the price on the Trompos Space online shop will be 13 euros for the fixed tip and 15 euros for the bearing tip, when they become available.

Sweet!

Not sure, but it will be a wonderful way to test theories on general behavior of tops, such as a longer string for high center of gravity and shorter string for low center of gravity.

Available!

Fixed tip Jupiter is available here.

Bearing tip Jupiter is available here.

Of course, despite the all-together buy.

I am nervous for mine.
