Hey Silvertop - "Can You See What I see?" puzzle
« on: February 01, 2011, 09:38:00 PM »

I don't know if anyone is into puzzles or not, especially Silvertop.  But this is one puzzle I am sure the great silver spinner would love to know more about!

I happened across this 300 piece puzzle from www.ceaco.com at a local Barnes and Nobles bookstore.  There are 12 sections (more like empty boxes) in the puzzle and they are filled to the brim with lots of fun items.  One box has small animal pieces, another box has dinosaurs, another has toy soldiers, another has colorful buttons, another has items from the ocean, another has checker and chess pieces and guess what another box has in it?  Yes, there are lots of tops in the box in the bottom right hand corner.  I see a dreidel and some finger spinners and some string and very clearly I see a yellow wood toycrafter top!  Below is a link to the specific puzzle on their webpage.......

Here is the "mount":

When Pablo was younger he used to bring from the library picture books from the "I Spy" series. They have large photographs of scenes with lots of objects and you have to find certain ones. Almost always at least one picture had a top, some of which I recognized, like the Aero-Motion finger top (red top with yellow stem at the lower center of the tops box). On that picture I can also see a couple of Royal Chiquito tops and I probably have a couple more.

I am not too much into those puzzles, but if somebody finds one that is just about tops, I am interested!

Did the title of this post remind anyone of SAW IV?

Pretty cool - Yes, I think the lower left top in the top bin is one of mine.  Does a "jack" belong in there?   I've got a couple of puzzles with tops in them.  If I think of it I'll try to post a pic.

I've always liked spinning jacks like tops.

And if I recall correctly, you accidentally broke one of them!  But, that is what they are for - to be used.  Yes, I have a bunch of small jacks and a few larger ones.  Yet, I still don't have the jacks I really want.  Every year at the mall they have picture taking time with Santa and a bunch of toys around him.  A couple of the toys are giant jacks.........maybe 18 to 24 inches in diameter!  I want some of those to spin in the Hall of Fame!!!

And if I recall correctly when I broke one it wasn't trying to spin it... and the other two jacks were co-conspirators ::)

I bought one like the stripped top in the 40's at Oak Hills Bible Camp from Jim Schreiber.  I still have that top in my display.  Great to see another one like it.  It sort of inspired the classic Watts' Top strip tops. :)

Love those jacks.  Thanks for the link.

I had some time today so I opened the puzzle.  It is only 300 pieces so I was able to make good progress.  I got the outside edge done and, best of all, I got the bottom right corner completed.  Now everytime I work on it I can look at the tops and smile!

I finished the puzzle.  I love it.  It is a great looking picture and fairly good size at 24 inches by 18 inches.  I am hoping I can get it in some kind of frame before Mark Hayward comes this weekend for our yo-yo event!
