Apex visited UC
« on: December 30, 2010, 04:07:16 PM »

Apex was able to give Bryan and me a couple hours of his busy schedule while in Cincinnati today!
It was great to see him again after meeting him this year at the Miamisburg festival.  We heard some great top stories and saw some great spintop and yo-yo moves.  Somehow the time really passes quickly when other spinners stop in to play.

With his visit today, Apex is the forth spinner to earn his HDPE top from us, and here he poses with it by the infamous white board outside Bryan lab.

Thanks, Apex, for a great time.

Wish I could have been there.  Visits to UC are always special.

Hope you had a good time, Apex!

So I couldn't find anything in the search. What is the HDPE top??

At the physics department at the University of Cincinnati, we made a mold for making plastic tops.  Currently we are simply casting used HDPE plastic from 5 gallon buckets and milk crates to make reasonably tough tops that we beat around our hard surfaces play area (the hallway seen behind Apex).  The search for HDPE does seem surprisingly weak, so here is the original thread Got Milk (jugs)?

edit:  Actually the search is OK.  It seems the search returns only the last post of a thread in which the search term appears so for example the Got Milk thread is a search result but only the last post in that thread in which HDPE appears is presented.

John and Bryan,
Thank you for the hospitality. I hope next time I am in Cincy the weather will be a little nicer and we can go play outside.
The top plays great, now I have to make some string to match.
If I had known I was going to have my picture taken I would have done something with my hair.
I hope to see you guys again soon.

Thanks for finding the OP for me John. What you're doing is Awesome! My daughter is taking physics and I keep hoping they would do something with yoyos or tops but....they don't. Very cool tops, and a nice shape.
