Well,
I decided to finally get around to making some spin top string the other day.
But I still like Apex string from Alex Ayers a whole lot though.
Apex string is a very nice patterned string.
With the amount of string that I now have and adding up, I'm looking for some early Duncan spin top buttons / butterflies to attach the string to...
And also different Mexico Trompo spin top buttons to try out. Like 5 Estrellas.
Any spin top buttons for that matter.

Does any one have some extra spare spin top button/s?

Oh, Not interested in Duncan Rip~Cord buttons. Just the flexi plastic buttons...

Sincerely,
Mark Magyar

I use a 1" craft punch to punch coffee-can lids (folger's black lids are the best) or similar plastics, then a leather punch for the hole in the middle.  Works great, and unlimited buttons are nice.  Give it a shot.

Also, I have a few of these to trade (yellow & blue only):
I will trade for RC / BK buttons, colors other than clear, preferably bright.  Same goes for all y'allz  ;D

I have to buy gallon jugs of distilled water.  The caps are really good buttons and can snap on some tops.
Practice hard and play safe.

Package received, thanks Mark!

Mark included a sample of his homemade string and a prototype homemade origami button!  The button is a great idea, good size and weight, and the string has great tension and consistency.  Thanks again Mark.

I will send your buttons tomorrow, sorry I haven't done that already  :-[

Really nice button design Mark, very creative!
Good looking string too!

An origami button is an original idea!
That reminded me the origami koma you sent me, which reminded me those origami finger tops that can be spun and, closing the circle, to the realization that I have never seen a button that can itself be spun. Does anybody use a button that is a finger top or even a mini throw top?

PS: I am reading the book Origamics from Prof. Kazuo Haga.  The book is mostly about the math (high-school level) of origami folds. I am starting the third chapter and it is still talking just about single folds, no constructions. But if you like classical (Euclidean) geometry, you will like this book.

Give Thanks.

Nice of you to take a photo Neff.
I was thinking about asking you to take a photo because I don't have a dig cam right now.

Here's a test for everyone...
See how many different kinds of buttons you can spin by putting a toothpick through the middle of them. You might have to wrap tape around the toothpick for the button to stay snug when spinning. I tried spinning a R~C button and they spin well.
The origami button does also spin.

Well,

Hip Hip Hooray!
Received buttons from Neff today.
Much Thanks Neff.

So that is what one of your Folger's buttons looks like eh?

Neff

yup!  glad you got them.  I just sent those as an example.  I've been teaching a buddy at work how to throw, and he likes something more substantial than the ones I use, and I suppose they are fairly flimsy, but I just love how light they are, they will never pull out, and they will rarely snag the string.
