I really didn't think the Reds would make it but still it's hard for me to get cranked about the world series.......yet!  If the SpinQueen is cheering for the Giants that might be enough for me to get excited again.

Why is it called World Series? .  .   .  Does it take place at the Rosen Plaza?  ;D

Here is one answer to that question I have found....
AnswerThe MLB is the most prestigious league to play baseball. It is filled with the best players from all over the world from Asia, United States, Dominican Republic, and many other countries. Mlb scouts search for the best players around the world and offer them large contracts to join the club. When the playoffs are at the end there is nobody left except for two teams. This is called the world series because all that is left are two teams filled with the very best players form all over the world.

Some argue that because the teams are from only two countries, the United States and Canada it should not be called the "world" series. Comparisons to the World Cup of Football (aka soccer) are often made to highlight the very narrow band of countries that comprise the baseball World Series. But what something should be called and why and what something is called are two different things.

Some have speculated that it is called the world series because it was originally sponsored by the New York paper The World. This idea is debunked by baseball Hall of Fame Museum in 1999. "Others have asked that question of the staff at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. in recent weeks. "There's no evidence suggesting it was ever sponsored by the New York World newspaper," said Hall of Fame researcher Eric Enders. When the World Series between the National and American leagues began in 1903, the owners borrowed the name from the world championship series held in the 1880s between the National League and the American Association. Enders concludes the name didn't originate from the name of the long-defunct newspaper. It sounds like an urban myth."
