Yes Mark, an extra day (Thursday) sounds great!  I had been thinking that also we need to find a place where we can spin our tops in the evening...especially Saturday night....some place where when we can have a contest for $ cash $!   We know that can't happen at the Holiday Inn where they harass even the yo-yo players to move away from the hotel by using crabby women and signs.   Thanks Ta0, for trying to "get us a room".

That all sounds like fun.  With the youngest off to college we will be empty nesters next year and I will try to bring my wife along.  Afterall, I believe we are the only husband and wife to be registered on this forum!

The sports (ladder) awards
« Reply #33 on: October 06, 2010, 12:59:11 AM »

There were no kids from SQ's Academy so we had few participants in the sports division (not a ladder anymore as you get to choose the order of the tricks). This is the award ceremony:

From left: Dylan Schink (17 years) winner of the 17+ division, Andrew (Robinson?) (12) winner of the 12 and under, John Ferre (14) winner of the 13-17 years.

John competed in all the ladders at nats and also won the diabolo (reaching the last trick!). He is also a juggler. I taught him to throw on the ground that morning (he did not own a top) and by the time he did the "ladder" he landed boomerangs most of the time and was starting to work on MGR. He could get scary good at tops in a short time, if he wanted, although he has many competing interests. He is from Chico so he will be at future nats.

Zeemo sent me a link to the L.A. Times story about Chico.  I read the story looking for top references but the story was all about the yo.

However, when I clicked on the accompanying photo layout for the story, this was the first image I saw:

Beautiful shot of Alan Gray and a big top.

Wow!  What a great bunch of photos!  Makes me want to have a professional photographer just follow me around all the time.  If only I had a staff, I would and a photographer to it for sure.

Terrific picture, Alan.  Love that big top and the swirling rope!

That is an amazing picture. The hard part was balancing that top on the end of that loose rope.

All of the elements are there in that picture.  The angle, the lighting, and the moment.  Nice one!

This reminds me another great action shot of Alan and a big top that appeared in the media: the whip-my-face "playboy" picture on the Daily Nebraskan  ;)

The photo is on the top half of page 7. Nothing else of interest to see on that page.
