I saw the Spice Girls in concert in '98 or '99, I forget.

On a similar note (girly pop music), I recently got this...

My friend was a tour photographer for Britney Spears on two tours.

But that lathe is cool too ;)

MrYo

LOL i fear i must pay more than the lathe cost to work with Britney  ;)
Indeed i'm still asking price all over cnc lathe manufacters, China, India, Usa ecc maybe at lat i will find something i can buy to make ALL the delrin productin by myself  8)

Takeshi

That would be SOOOO awesome!  You can do it bro, I know you can!

robtsou

That's pretty cool!

On the Britney line, my buddy Mike was one of the clowns on her Circus tour.

Would 2-axes be enough to make your tops? I think John mentioned that the CNC in the Cincy's physics shop had 3-axes and he would really need 4 (or was it 4 and 5?) to make a (hollow) top.

Britney on the other hand seems to have lots of degrees of freedom, perhaps too many to be safe to handle :P

MrYo

I think i can use one of these, for Giulia the machinist used 11 tools to work the top in one step. With an 8 position tool holder with 3 programs and tool changes i can make somethink like the Giulia, takes time, but i think is possible

Our CNC milling machine from the late '80's is more like a 2 + 1 axis machine in that only x and y of the bed can move simultaneously while they must pause for z of the spindle moves.  For a vertical mill, the shape of a peg top provides an extreme challenge (at least for me) with 'hidden' cuts due to the widest part not being at either end.  Clever cutters and/or a rotatry table would be helpful but still probably require a couple of mountings to complete.  A CNC lathe is the way to go for tops--unfortunately we don't have one. :(

Hi Maurizio. Try with the 2º market machines.

In Spain the crisis is so big that there are lots of lathes for sale as bargain. CNC too.

If you prefer a new one try this:

http://www.klippfeld.at/index_en.html    From Ostreich buy very good quality.

I want some guys as you in my city to share a CNC lathe. 3000 for a shared lathe is good to me. And working together would be a lot of fun talking about tops (fútbol), tips (girls) and string (moto-GP or F-1 races). :)

A CNC lathe is the way to go for tops

I spoke without completely researching the topic.  Perhaps the proper way to make tops is with a lathe mounted on a CNC mill like this one.  The mill with lathe accessory seems like a great way to cover all bases for a small shop and low production numbers.  I didn't see an automatic tool change feature but there are always sacrifices to be made.

Thats a crazy machine, you can do anything with it,  i wonder how much it cost

robtsou

've seen the lathe on the mill thing before and always thought it was pretty neat.  The hard part is the hollowing of course.

Here is a different more budget minded version using a Taig lathe and mill.  Someone tell me how to embed video!
