I did a little bit of digging tonight and found some tops in my collection that just don't get enough play and are probably better off with a true collector.

All the pics are HUGE so I won't post them directly on the forum, but you can find them here...
http://drop.io/q3tw7on

If you actually download the picture, it will be much larger than shown.

I really don't know what tops are going for these days, so I don't want to overprice these bad boys, BUT I don't want to underprice them either.  So at this point I'm just going to entertain offers.  First reasonable offer that I get gets the item they're inquiring about :)  You can post here or shoot me an email with any offers or questions!    newschool101(at)gmail(dot)com

Top 1:
There is a clear YYJ Gates top that has been very well used.  It's from the National Spin Top Contest 2000, I know because it says so right on the crown.  The tip of the tip is cracked and there are some small stress cracks around the weight ring.

Top 2:
Another YYJ Gates top, but this one has a marble'ish baby blue body with a painted blue and red crown.  The wrong crown was placed on this guy though.  The crown says, "Top Dog YoYo Jam Spin Top".  It is used, but in very good condition... except the tip.  The tip is cracked in two places, as seen in the pic.

Top 3:
Top 3 I need some help with.  I don't really know what the story is on it.  It looks like a YYJ Top Dog except for the funky wide tip and the blank crown (no writing on it).  It could be a bootleg or it could be a prototype, I have no idea.  Anyone got the scoop on this guy?

Top 4:
An Eric Wolf Organic Dyed Sir Duncan top.  I picked this up at Worlds one year.  It's been so long I honestly forget, but I'm pretty sure it was '03 or '04.

YYJ TIPS!  I have 4 brand spankin' new YYJ tips still in the original packages.  Not too exciting seeing as how they came in plan ol' little plastic bags when I picked 'em up at worlds 5 or 6 years ago.  There is a 5th tip, but it is missing the tip of the tip... hmm... that's the best way I can describe it, but you'll see in the pic.

So that's all I got right now, but I like Jorge's idea of throwing up some of my modded Bearing Kings.  I have 10 all modded and balanced beautifully for Nat's.  I'll try to make up a few more to offer up soon.  Hopefully I'll be using the ten I have ready next week ;)

Thanks everyone and much love!

Hey Takeshi, great to see u posting here again. All the best for Nats!

Am looking forward to see your modded BK, do keep one for me if they're up for offer. :)

All those tops are special. I bet the third one is a Topdog prototype. The tip it has is not good for play: it will push the string towards the body, but the rest of the topdog design is already there. Jon may be able to tell the story. The second Gates has a very unusual coloring for a Gates. The clear one is a pre-Gates Gates  ;D

I bid:
$90 for the 2000 Gates
$90 for the Topdog proto

pplgrande

You should autograph them Takeshi, that would be a great trompo to have :)

I think bidding should be in more reasonable increments... at least 2 cents at a time.  Or possibly $100 at a time.  (I'm pulling for ya Takeshi!)

Tomymoonly

i am interested in the gates BlueBaby one with a new tips how much for it .? dunno the price when it was available :'(

The tops look great, wish ... I ... wasn't ... so ... poor ... wife ... would ... kill ... me ...

"Could switching to GEICO really save you 15 percent or more on car insurance?"

...Is a top in the hand worth two on the floor?

Oh man!  This is tougher than I thought it would be, lol.  Since no one has bid on the tips, I'm taking them off the sale table.  *BAM* they're gone.  I've put a new tip on each of the Gates tops.   So each Gates top has a new tip installed AND they will come with one new extra tip.  BOOYAH!  Problem solved.  (I should have done it in the first place though, lol)

So right now we have...

Top 1: Clear Gates at $90.01 from Mike Houte

Top 2: Baby Blue Gates.  No bid, but an interested party via private messaging.

Top 3: Top Dog Proto at $90 from Ta0

Top 4: The Organic Dye'd Sir Duncan by Eric Wolf.  No bids :(  Win/Win for me though, I might get to keep it :)

Tips:  Off the table.

I agree with Mark about the 'more reasonable increments.  Let's say from here on out, the smallest bid increment is $5.  BUT here's the good news, NO MAXIMUM BID INCREMENTS!  Super cool of me to do that for you right?  Well, you're welcome ;)

The tops have already gone higher than I expected, so let's end this tonight at 10 pm or when the bidding gets up to $150 for any of the YYJ tops and $80 for the Wolf Dye Job top, which ever of those comes first.  Man, maybe I should have used ebay for this ;)

Thanks guys!

O.k., new tips update.  I snapped on the tips to the Gates tops and they were a little bit too big... pics updated on http://drop.io/q3tw7on ... is this normal?  or do I just have funky tips?

Well whatever, I fixed 'em for youz guyz that get the Gates tops.  ... pics at http://drop.io/q3tw7on ... I am going to fix each of the spares that come with each Gates top too.  So you guys won't have to worry about it later.

I cleaned the bearings on the tips I installed, but the extra tips WILL NOT BE CLEANED.  I don't want to clean them, because I don't know how long they will be sitting around once you get them.  If cleaned and they sit around for years, then they will rust and I don't want to do that to  you.  I mean, I bought these tips 5 or 6 years ago.

I bid $90.01 to tick off ta0......not to irritate Mark.  But it looks like I have done the reverse of what I intended.

OK......to make Mark happy I will say $90.02.  But to make Takeshi happy I will bid $95.

Dagnabbit Mike!  I said increments of $5!  Your bid of $95 is only an increment of $4.99 from the previous bid of $90.01, geez!

Now I'm being awnry ;)  $95 is good.  Thanks homeslice!

Tomymoonly

would it be a cheapass bid if i say 75$ for the blue gates and one tips? without shipping ? :'(

If the tip without the end cone spins well, I'll take it for $5 (I have plenty of end cones).

Mike is so nice. I think he just wanted to give me the opportunity to have buyer's remorse but don't deny me the top if I really wanted it. You don't have any Gates, Mike, do you? That first Gates-no-Gates top from the first US national contest of the modern era would look in the right place in the Hall of Fame. Mmm, I am thinking about it . . .

They look normal to me.

I would say it is fair unless you count Takeshi's eternal gratitude. But then it would be invaluable ;)

ta0: I thought the tips looked normal too, but here's a pic of a new tip on the Gates top next to the modded tip....

I tried playing with the top and the string kept getting caught on the tip where the tip meets the body.  So I shaved it down so it doesn't do that anymore.  $5 for the top tip without the tip of the tip is awesome.  Thanks ta0!

Tomymoonly: $75 is not bad at all.  I installed a new tip on the top and it will also come with one extra tip.
