Gray homework complete!!! (three months later)
« on: September 14, 2010, 03:00:14 PM »

During the Flatland frenzy, Alan gave Mntntop and I a quick lesson in making the Graytest battle top, and sent us each home with a finished one and a blank to copy the shape on.  I finally finished my homework (I am home sick today... for that to make sense I need to tell y'all that they've hired me back on an hourly basis, anyway yeah, snot everywhere)   The one on the right is the one I did (<3 Schafly).

My new chuck should be in on Thursday.  As you may be able to tell from this photo I am very exited to receive it:

Beautiful work Chris.
That Schlafly beer cap adds a nice touch.
Get well soon!

Nice work Neff and mtntop!!.............I'm getting more and more bummed out that I'm not going to be in Chico.  My son Noah is a freshman in high school this year and he made the varsity soccer team.  Homecoming weekend is Friday-Sunday and on Saturday they play their arch rivals; the winner is likely to be the league champion this year.  I will throw tops on the sidelines during the game (in between the jumping around and screaming), and think of all of you who are going..........

Hey Chris, what kind of chuck are you getting?

I, too, will miss Chico because of homecoming festivities.............for my step-daughter.  I will try to toss a few that weekend, like Eric, and remember our top friends in Chico.

Speaking of top spinning friends, I was just on the University of Cincinnati campus and I couldn't stop by the Geo-Phys building basement to visit our favorite physics department top spinners.  I was on campus with my wife and step-daughter, Megan.  Little Meg was celebrating her 18th birthday and we went out to eat in Cincy before stopping by the UC campus to visit her boyfriend.  I was in Turner Hall but couldn't quite escape to get over to the other side of campus.  Sigh!

Well as long as we're proffering excuses, I won't make be able to make Chico but I will be throwing tops with some pretty good players down at the KC Juggling Festival.  Anyone else in the area should check it out.  Friday Saturday Sunday, come and play.

Nice work Joe!!!

Sorry Eric, Noah, Mike, and Rick can't make it.  We shall toast to all of our absent heroes!

Eric - this is the chuck I got:  http://www.pennstateind.com/store/CMG3C.html
I'm pretty happy with it.  I wanted to go with your recommendation, I was once taught "Buy the best and cry only once,"  But I'm in a state of mandatory frugality at the moment...  :)

I will be driving through Lincoln on Wednesday morning Rick. I can just stop by and pick you up on my way to Chico. ;)

The juggling in KC sounds like a great time too.

Alan, when I saw you were doing a road trip, that's actually the first thing that ran through my head.  But I'm the designated driver this time, so prior commitments and all that stuff.  Maybe next year.

You'll be fine with that one.  You'll end up wanting more than one chuck anyway :)
