I was watching a documentary on Aljazeera English about the Kalbelia ethnic group from Rashasthan, India, a gypsy-like people, when they showed a little segment that was almost spintop related:

In the immortal words of Jerry Lee Lewis, there's a whole lotta spinnin' goin' on!

Video shows many roughly hand-sized amusements and props valued mostly for their spinnability and gyroscopic behaviors (including directional stability and precession). What to call such a thing generically? The category includes true tops, spindulums, and yo-yos but goes way beyond that.

Some authors (e.g., Butikov) have used "gyroscope" almost this broadly, but I think it would conjure overly specific images in most people's minds. Spintoy? Spinthing? Spinnamabob? Spinnamajig? Gyrotoy?
