We're all missing you so much Ta0!
That would be a great add to the 10th edition of Marines and 3rd of Loon-plage (that you have to enjoy too this time, we still look for a serious judge for the first official spintop French championship?)

Great fun here in snowy Marines! Jim and Ludo and his wife and daughter are wonderful hosts, and everyone involved feels like an old friend, even though we've known each other only online in my case.

Today, got some very helpful throwing lessons from the maestro, Jose. He makes it all look so easy!

Ludo came up with the perfect dark "theater" for my blacklight tops. Tomorrow will try to find a variable-speed strobe for the tops I make specifically for strobe effects. These and the blacklight tops are generally my biggest crowd-pleasers.

The venue and content are great. Lots to see and do for the festival. Ludo has done a great job with this event.
So far I have helped fold large 3 piece oragami tops, help bring materials into the venue and set up 3d printers with Mermouy . We have been making so calibration pieces as well as a few little tops. Mermouy even printed Jeremy a lego tip which was quickly turned into a top. I also threw top with Ludos daughter Sham which was fun.
A few players arrived late last night so I imagine there will be some tops thrown today.

I can imagine Attila, Wilson and Ludo arriving exhausted but happy.

If you add France to the list (but count California and Colorado as the same country), I think that's more than in Shanghai, Iceland, Cleveland or Tokyo, but less than Prague.

I see a couple of platforms (one very tall) for Taiwanese target shooting: very nice!
The tall one is new from last year. Also are the 3D printers. I'm not surprised to see Attila playing by himself. I'm not sure if I should be surprised that Jeremy brought sandals to snowy Marines.

I see in the forecast for Marines for this week a lot of snow spinning!

Most Coloradans and Californians would count themselves in the same country. Not so sure about some other states that shall go nameless.

Yesterday and today, waves and waves of school children -- exhausting but lots of fun! Ludo held a LEGO top-making clinic for 50 kids with parts he bought on eBay. Each went home with a LEGO top.

Sat and Sun, the general public, with 2,000 visitors expected. Tops are in the air at all times here -- most of them Jose's.

Found on youtube a video of Emma(nuel) doing a presentation to school children. You can see Attila pacing on the right, probably ready to do a demonstration.

Looks like early in the morning, with few of the players at the venue.

I just whant to thank everyone at Marines Festival such a warm wellcoming, I enjoyed every minute of it!!

The venue was amazin all those tops from all over the world.. the top games, the decoration (God I love the flags soooo much)...the workshops for the kids (and the great demos at the end)... the 3D printed working all 24h nonstop (super cool designs!)... The greatness of Boyacá (es para vivirla)...  the battles at nigth... the endless posibilities of lego tops... the live music...

I had the chance to learn so many things... Tainwan top target trowing, the basics of regeneration, ABC of Chocakegoma, Rope making, Basics of 4A yoyo, wirewalker with nylon...

Thanks Mermouy, Emanuel, Ludo and families for the food the venue decoration... for taking care of me so well!!

To all all the people attending the festival, you are great players and better people. It was great sharing a couple of days with you!!!

Marines 2019 spintop festival.. it was way better that anything I could have dreamt of!!

i learned a lot, like boomeranging big tops, throwing japanese and colombian
tops and so much more. but whats even nicer is that I met a lot of very nice
people and i am already looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

Cheers,

Festival brought many gratifying responses to my tops, and better yet, many new friends from Europe and the Americas. Much to its credit, this forum beings together a welcoming and vibrant community of spintoy enthusiasts of all kinds.

Many thanks to Ludo and his wife and daughters for taking such good care of us -- and for their willingness to translate whenever I needed it. He's lucky to have such a wonderful family. I left them all some tops.

Back to Paris tomorrow with Jim, whose endless help and fun company I'll always remember fondly. Then off to see Cyril and his collection on Tuesday. Can't wait!

I sounds like another great festival! Yes, Ludo's family is top notch!

I'm very glad that this forum has helped the community come together. I'm also happy that this year ITSA could directly support the festival.

I'm sorry I missed seeing and meeting you, guys. I hope to make it next year to Marines+Loon.
Now I want to see lots of photos and video  ;)

I took lots of video . It will take some time but I plan to put something together.
It is tough to write to much on the phone but I also would like to say thanks to Ludo and everyone at the event that made me feel at home. Right away I was made to feel like an old friend.
The support for my tops was amazing so thanks to my patrons.  Watching people using one of my tops and figuring out a new trick made me feel like I am on the right path.
I am sure I will misspell people's names.

Ludo, karin, Leela, Sara, Sham, Damien, Quentin, Christoph, Pepe, Wilson, Murmouy, Emanuel,Atilla,Jeremy, Jim and Chrstian are names that come to mind. THANKS!

howdie folks !
today we visited Cyril and his wonderful collection
we had a great time going through the various displays
many photos and vdo's done: the highlight happened at the end
of the afternoon, when we looked at one of jeremy's "optical" lego tops
(the one with a special black and white pattern)
through a 19th century ancestor of a stromboscope
used to see animated images
there was also this incredible top in which the optical effect is electricaly powered by a bottle
containing a mix of acids to create an electrolyse !

much much fun with cyril who truly is a mix of a gentleman and a child
later we had a pastry time with homemade apple pie , lemon pie ,strawberry cake/mousse and génoise
cyril's wife belongs to the "cordon bleu" trend :-)for that matter
we couldn't go without jose doing a relampago-top routine and now he has left a top in cyril's display

all in all , despite the fact that we missed Wilson at the meeting point,
it was worth the drive : on the way back , in the middle of traffic congestion,
we suddenly heard the "toupie-tambour" number by Didier and hadouk trio
no wonder , it happened to be ready in my cd payer just in case  ;)

tomorrow , hanging around in paris , goodbye-farewell dinner plannned with Jose and Jeremy

last question i heard in the car: who is going to be the next special guest in marines ?
the answer is still spinning in the air .....
and it needs mermouille , emmanuel , ludo and I to recover a bit before we agreed on new adventures
and ink it

à piu tardè

It sounds like a great visit. I never saw that top with an antique wet battery (Leyden jar?) working.
I can corroborate that Cyril's wife cooks delicious Corsican and French meals.
I never posted the videos and photos from my last visit (life got in the way). I might just add to the ones Jose and Jeremy post.
I feel sorry for Wilson missing the visit. It's a very unique collection.

Yes, an excellent video!  8) Thanks for taking the time to do make it and share it with those of us who wished we had gone.

Quentin always trying new things (and stealing the show with his world class 4A routines).
Attila also loves to experiment but the target support he performed on a previous video was somewhat suicidal.  :D
The Colombian tops, at least in Wilson's hands, seemed to work very well for the Taiwanese platforms.
I noticed that Mermouy has a very high arch on his platform throws and it seems to work well.

Correct! It was an old one I kept "in case of" this model was a "two sizes giraf unicycle (https://www.unicycle.uk.com/unicycles/giraffe/nimbus-giraffes/5-7-nimbus-performer-giraffe.html)" it came with a configurable mounting system and 2x2 different size chains of course..

I noticed that Mermouy has a very high arch on his platform throws and it seems to work well.
Ooops, videos don't lies right? I need to practice this more...

If it works, you don't need to change it. It might help the top stay on the platform instead of skidding out.
Also, the best 3-point shooter in the NBA has a very high arch.
