I made a Travel Skittles Board!
This one is much smaller than a standard board, so I called it Travel Skittles. I'm working on a video of the whole process of making it, but it's not finished yet. I'll post a link when it is, or you can subscribe to my youtube channel and sign up for a notification when it's posted: www.youtube.com/markhayward

Looks great. I have been wanting to build something like this but have no time. Possibly this fall.
-
I really had to force myself to do it. This project took about 3 months, since I had other things I had to do, and still had some set-up and maintenance to do on my shop. Starting is half the battle for me, but then you have to keep plugging away at it and actually finish. This is a lot of why I decided to reinvigorate my youtube channel: I needed an excuse to get down into my shop and make stuff. Now that I'm making videos of me making stuff on a regular basis, I'm going to get a lot more done!
-
Well done, sir. Looks like it would be fun to play. I can no longer view the pics here but saw them earlier. Thanks for sharing the project with us.

A portable skittles is a good idea.
As butterfingers said the image is not visible anymore (I guess the google link expired). You can try the forum new "Add image to post" feature.

Done! Thanks Jorge.

Very nice! I like the concept. I wonder if you can travel with it over to Miamisburg in August. It is a long trip, though.
-
Ooo... maybe! I put it on my calendar! I'll do everything I can to come, but I might have a conflicting gig.

Nice video!
Quality work. Your workshop is well equipped.
What are the odds of finding a mint skittles board on a crumbling house by the river? :o :o :o
PS: The reader behind you didn't complain when you made the fuse blow. :o :o :o :o :o :o My kind of girl!

hello Mark !
thanks for this great document
I enjoyed the last sequences when you try to get a bouncy top
you know this ability for a top to bump and rebound has been a lot discussed in relation with
toupie hollandaise tables
here in case you missed this thread

2 screws and off-centered tip seems to work perfectly ;)

Good job, Mark, and great video!
You understand, of course, that your skittles board can not really be considered a TRAVEL skittles board unless it actually travels. With that in mind, I hope to see you and your travel skittle board in Miamisburg in August.... ;)
-
I agree with a number of things.
Yes...the board is terrific.
Yes...the video is great
Yes...your workshop is well equipped
Yes...an off-centered tip would be exciting
Yes...the game should travel
And yes...you and the game should travel to Miamisburg to celebrate Christmas in August!!!
-
Yes! I sure hope I can make it! I may have a gig conflict, and I have to drive across the country the next day, but I'll do my best to get to Miamisburg!
-
I will have to make something like this when I have some time. Will have to use 3D printed pins and top though ;D
Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
-
Jim, thanks so much for the link to the thread about the tip shape for Cyril's top tables. I hadn't seen it and there's some great information there!

Nice work.
Besides, something strange. Two of my favorites skill toys. Top and Clubs (those little ones seem juggling clubs, in miniature, of course)
