Title: How to post pictures on this forum
Post by: Neff on April 14, 2012, 12:42:07 PM
EDIT:
NEW EASY METHOD!
Go down this thread to HERE (http://www.ta0.com/forum/index.php/topic,2210.msg51753.html#msg51753).

==================

Two options for posting photos on the iTopSpin Forum:

1) Create a Photobucket, Flickr, Picasa, etc. account and upload your photos to that account.  You should then be able to obtain an image url by right-clicking on the image and "copy image url".  Go to the forum start a post and copy the url into it.  ON EITHER SIDE OF THE URL you must have the following code:

[ img]http://myphotohosting.com/example.jpg (http://myphotohosting.com/example.jpg)[/img]  (I put an extra space after the first bracket so the code appears: do not do this!)

Either directly type it in or select the address and click the second square from the left above the smiley faces, (http://www.ta0.com/forum/Themes/core/images/bbc/img.gif), and it will insert the code for you.

2) Attach the file to the post.  Start a post, go to the bottom, click the plus sign next to "Attachments and other options".  Click on the choose file button and upload it from your computer.  NOTE:  YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED TO RE-SIZE YOUR IMAGE FIRST because the maximum  size of each image  is 200 350KB.  Re-sizing your image can be fairly easy but that depends on what type of photo editing software you have...

Thanks Chris.
In general I do not like to load the board with stickies, but I probably should relax that rule to make it more user friendly to new members  ::)

Easy enough on a PC but I can't get that url on my phone.  The other one is the only share code that imgur will provide through the app.  I no longer have an source that I can get on my phone that I can upload to, find the code, copy and paste it here, put the [img] codes on it... Photobucket, imgur, dropbox, google drive, nothing works.  I rarely have time to get to a computer any more.

I think that none of the photo services wants to make direct linking to the photo easy, even from a PC.  >:(
But looking at the imgur code, it seems that they make it easier than others: add a leading "i." and a trailing ".jpg":
http://imgur.com/##### => http://i.imgur.com/#####.jpg

I'm most of the day in front of a PC but I need to remember to check the forum on a phone. I'll look for alternatives.

Thanks ta0 I don't want you to have to spend a bunch of time on it, I just want you to know the problem and I hope a solution presents itself in the future.  Maybe somebody else has figured out a way to get a picture on the forum using only a phone?  Maybe we can have a contest lol...

NEW EASY METHOD TO POST IMAGES!

Just click "Add image to post" below the text box, and then browse for your photo, or drag it, or put the url, and presto!

(http://thumb.ibb.co/cktnrQ/josephine_wall_magic_top.jpg) (http://ibb.co/cktnrQ)

The post will show the image thumbnail and if you click on it it will be full size.

Attention: the image will be hosted on a third party server, imgbb.com, over which I have no control.

I don't understand the question. Can you explain again what you want to achieve?

Welcome to the forum!!!

One thing I didn't like was the thumb size photo. But it seems you can also link directly to the image. After you load it as explained above, go to the image, right click and copy the image location url, and use it on your post between image codes like this:
Code: [Select]
[img]image-url[/img].

(http://image.ibb.co/m0R7rQ/josephine_wall_magic_top.jpg)

You can control the size by adding a "width" or a "height":

Code: [Select]
[img width=500]image-url[/img]or
Code: [Select]
[img height=400]image-url[/img]

My 16:9 phone images are getting cropped to squares when displayed here from imgbb but show correctly -- i.e., without cropping -- when viewed on imgbb directly.

Adding width=500 and height=281 attributes consistent with the 16:9 format just stretches the crops horizontally without revealing the cropped portions.

Suggestions?

Jeremy: do what I explained 3 messages above. Basically, after you upload the image, you go to imgbb (by clicking on the image in the preview) and grab the direct link to the full image, which you replace for the cropped image link.

Hmmm, tried that, but maybe I did something wrong. Can you give a complete example with an imgbb photo and the exact code?

Here is your photo:

Title: Sizing photos
Post by: ta0 on March 17, 2021, 06:26:32 PM
Say, what kind of link did you ask for when you uploaded that photo to ibb? My photos are usually too big, and the "width=800 height=450" attributes don't seem to help.
When you upload a photo to ibb there is an icon with a pencil that you can use to edit the size of the image BEFORE uploading it:

(https://i.ibb.co/0MfhMzM/image.png)

I recommend the maximum dimension not bigger than 800 pixels.

Good tip. Then what kind of link do you ask for? There are at least 8.

You can either select the BBcode under Embed Codes => Full Image (linked) or, what I do, simple right-click on the image, copy the url of the image and link it as any other image.

To embed Instagram videos, copy the link and put it in this form:

Code: [Select]
https://www.instagram.com/p/CW3fxmkL5MD/
For example, if it has the /tv/ after instagram.com, replace it by /p/

If the original link says /reel/ this trick will embed the image of the video, but you will still have to watch it on Instagram.

Installed a patch so now youtube shorts will embed directly. Just enter the address:

Code: [Select]
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/g7her429xxc
Also added support for Instagram reels, for start time on youtube videos and for pdf display.

 And again I am having the problem of not knowing how to link to a youtube video without showing a screenshot.
How did I do it here (http://www.ta0.com/forum/index.php/topic,6419.msg72443.html#msg72443)? Or did you edit my post that time ta0?

I don't recall if I edited your post. But currently if you don't put the www. in front of youtube, it won't embed the video.

This doesn't embed video:
Code: [Select]
[url=http://youtube.com/watch?v=ckFUpKy82Qg]-video-[/url]
This embeds video:
Code: [Select]
[url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckFUpKy82Qg]-video-[/url]
As a last resort, you can always use the code instruction as I did above (the # button above the editing box) to stop something from running.

Code: [Select]
[code]Something[ /code]

You are correct I think, ta0. Here is my way I found more or less efficient to get to that result:
With the "toggle View " in WYSIWYG mode you make use of the "Insert hyperlink" button and insert the link to the youtube video as you would insert any other link to another post or to some external website.
When you have done that press "toggle view" to change the mode. Now you see the codes as ta0 wrote them in the  post before this and you can edit them by deleting the " www. " in front of "youtube".
Does that make sense does that work for anybody else?

Edit : there is a further complication in getting the correct youtube URL for this task I found: If you right click in a video while watching it, you get the option to " copy the video URL". When doing this you get something  like

(https://i.ibb.co/D5LwWqN/Url1.jpg)

here there is no "www." to delete in front of "youtube", you need to take one step more to get to what you really need:
 enter that URL into the address line of the browser and hit enter. In that moment it changes to

(https://i.ibb.co/vH1NJ2T/Url2.jpg)
Now you can copy this and bring it via the "insert hyperlink" button into the editing window of the forum. Only now you can do that "toggle view" business as described above.
