Title: trompo cometa at retail products show
Post by: johnm on March 26, 2011, 12:47:26 PM
I thought it was interesting that Trompos Cometa was at the Spring Fair International retail products show in the UK.  In particular, their description states "with success in Latin American, Spain, and Hungary."  I didn't realize that Hungary what a hot bed for spintops. ??? :o

English trade show? Hungary?  :o Am I starting to hear the rumblings of a tsunami? Will tops become big in a couple of years?

Quote
We produce 200,000 pieces per week
I don't know if 1 piece = 1 top, but that would be a LOT of tops!

Good find, John!

Does anyone import Trompos Cometas to the US?  I'd love to have a Cobra, and there are several others that I'm coveting, as well.

I wish they did, unfortunally the last time I contacted them, they said they didnt
If this has changed im interested in some Cometa trompos too
I bought some a while back from Pulpwsky and he shipped them from Spain, but beware that Trompos from Spain have a flat point/tip
Also, beware of imitations, they have some made in china that look very nice and pretty much the same as Cometa but they play horrible, this made in china trompos are garbage

I saw on Pulp's forum that Trompos Cometa is again doing a campaign in Spain, but this time in Barcelona. A new spintop model they have is called Franxas (no idea what it means). It has the same internal longitudinal ribs as an Ultra from 5 Estrellas (or their own miniature Cometin). The Trompos Cometa website is currently not working so I did a search for Franxas and I found that they applied last September for a US trademark on spintops for that name. Very interesting . . .

Franxas is to Franjas as Mexico is to Mejico. :-D (Thanks Cattus)

Franjas in Spanish are stripes.

The Trompos Cometa website is currently not working

The website is back with an all new look.  http://www.tromposcometa.mx/ (http://www.tromposcometa.mx/)

Many tutorial videos, some starring Gustavo.

Plenty of pictures of the current line in a large array of colors including the Franxas (only in red?) which is grouped under Nuevos which can be found by mousing over the blue colored 'SILVER' top which seems to have a 3D (non-aerodynamic) cap.  (My web skills are inadequate to include photo links from their site in this post.)  Business must be good to merit a line of tops this extensive. ;D ;D

I think you can tell that Gustavo is itching to show more than just the simple tricks.

Gerardo's "El Mejor Truco" is renamed "El Circuito de Fernando Alonso" after the F1 champion racer from Spain, what shows the importance Cometa is giving to the Spanish market. I guess if they came to the US it would be The Circuit of Danika Patrick  ;D

This is Franxas:

and this is Silver:

In the "about us" they claim to have 20 injection machines with a production capacity of 200,000 pieces per week.

I was wondering who "Fernando Alonso" was
Very nice website, good upgrade
I hope to one day get my hands on a "Franxas", it looks like the 5 estrellas "Ultra", I really like it

Wow.  Where did you find this?  I thought this was a video that could not be found on the internet.

One of my favorite parts is when he puts the top on the boy's head and the boy walks away rubbing his head!

Title: Cometa campaign in Hungary
Post by: johnm on July 10, 2011, 06:25:31 PM
There are some videos on youtube of a spintop campaign by Cometa in Hungary.  Success in Hungary indeed!  With the US trademark application, it would be great to see Cometa debut in the states at worlds and perhaps include the fest in the Burg as part of a US tour. ;D

peonza hungary ózd (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lY_arku0tWM&#)

This one, link= Peonza bemutató 1. (Budapest) ft carlos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_Cclo-aBBE#ws), from Budapest is less exciting but shows a good number of kids participating in the contest and the youtube related videos has a selection of others.

edit:

Here is the Cometa website in Hungary.  link= http://5mp.eu/web.php?a=peonza&o=BOALpUeaO5 (http://5mp.eu/web.php?a=peonza&o=BOALpUeaO5)
Google translator seems pretty good at converting these pages.  Lots of great videos of the demostators and the public.
These guys are good and in particular I thought this was very clever and new.

The most amazing thing to me about all of this is that we are having our annual Day Camp at our church this week.  Each year we have an international counselor involved.  We have had people from Russia, Colombia, Liberia and others.  Guess where our international counselor this year is from?  Yep.......Hungary!  And his hometown is Budapest.  I will ask him about this video tomorrow morning!!!

By the way, we would be happy to feature Cometa tops at the Whirled Top Festival in Miamisburg.  We could make Cometa the top everyone needs to use in the youth battle competitions.

Wow! The worldwide spintop tsunami is building momentum . . .  and Cometa is leading it. ARE YOU PREPARED?  :o

Thanks for the links, John!
It seems the definitive website for the Cometa in Hungary is: www.peonza-hungary.hu (http://www.peonza-hungary.hu)
It is funny they use the word "peonza" which is used only in parts of Spain and not "trompo" or the Hungarian name (búgócsiga ?) for spinning top.

There is a lot to explore there.

These are the types of crowds we need:  :o

A profi pörget?k bemutatása (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7uhbiOapfA#ws)

We should do a high trapeze contest, it is exciting!:

That foot boomerang is crazy! I need to try it!

We have looked at the videos from Hungary.  Our counselor friend wonders if anyone knows exactly where this took place.  He says he is pretty familiar with the city but there are not enough shots of the background to place where it is.

Mike, did you ask him for the names for spinning tops in Hungarian? If they wanted to use a Spanish name to identify our types of tricking tops, is there a reason why they would not want to use the more common "trompo"?

Sure!: N 47° 32’ 54.7”, E 19° 08’ 48.2”  ;) That is the Budapest AsiaCenter.

Can he translate some of what they say on this long segment on a Hungarian TV show?:

Thanks for the location information.  Bence does know about the Budapest AsiaCenter and has been there.  He, sadly, has little background in any type of top spinning.  He knows about pump tops.  He seemed to pick up finger tops fairly well today.  But outside of that, he knows virtually nothing about tops and their spinning.  He did know the word peonza but acted like he didn't know any other words.  I haven't been able to get him to a computer to look at the Hungarian TV show and to do any translating.  We still have another day and a half.

I laid out the finger spinner tops from India and a sled today.  Kids gathered around it and played for over an hour.  It is amazing how fascinated people are with those simple tops.  Tomorrow I will show some more peg top spinning with the strings.
