Title: Invisible letters
Post by: ta0 on January 13, 2011, 11:48:41 PM
hey ta0, am I ever going to find a shade of font color that exactly matches the background color for the forum?
or is the background color dependent upon my computer settings?
??? Well, you can try "White" but the background of the post is not exactly bbc White. If you really want that feature I could change it so one of the colors is the same as the background, irrespective of the monitor. On the other hand, if the color has not the exact same coordinates, the contrast may depend on the settings of the monitor and the color vision of the reader. I have anomalous color vision so I may have trouble with some colors. On the other hand, some colors that are metamers (colors that look equal but have different spectrum) for normal vision people might not be the same for me.

EDIT:

Yes, alice blue is very close (I cannot see it). I'll check later if they are the same.

I like that "anomalous color vision," I'm "moderately color blind" or that's how I refer to it since if you tell people that you're color blind they immediately start asking you what color everything around them is and when you get most of them correct they look at you funny. I usually have to spend ten minutes explaining that there are two shades of color that I've found that look pretty much the same as grey to me, a shade of light teal and a shade of light magenta, but since there are varying amounts of those mixed in to all sorts of things, it throws off what I see, so even if I can accurately see what color something is I don't know for sure that it is that color since it looks just like things that might not be that color... I have a green shirt that usually looks yellow to me but in certain lights it does look green... and there have been a number of times when I asked a friend of mine if something was pink and the response was "no, that's grey."
I wonder if I've written that rant on one of these forums before, seems like I have...                                        hmm...  invisible letters is too much fun

so much fun highlighting a seemingly blank screen to find a mass of invisible text.

I think it might be too much work for me to start sending invisible messages anyway, since the background color seems to go back and forth betweentwo shadesof blue.

like i always say: dead monkeys don't fly on sticks...
hmm maybe i'll start putting that at the bottom of my messages

That is interesting. If you wanted you could probably make a color vision testing plate, similar to Ishihara, but optimized to your type of color vision, so you could see the hidden number but a "normal" color vision person wouldn't.

You can look at this page (http://www.visualmill.com/) I wrote a long time ago. But do not try to buy the software.
PS: I like your new signature.

What new signature?

I think he said something on a previous post about changing his signature to dead monkeys don't fly on sticks. But I may have jumped the gun ;D

hehehe i just put it as my actual profile signature...
i wasn't going to if i couldn't put the code in there, this is light blue so it should be barely visible, the signature is "aliceblue" which is much lighter and should be pretty much the same as the background on every other post. the best way to see it (for me anyways) is just to highlight the whole text...  ;D
i'm going to forget that it's there
this is alice blue
