Title: INTERNATIONAL TOP SPINNING DAY 2019
Post by: ta0 on October 09, 2019, 11:40:45 AM
Today is the second Wednesday of October so it's: INTERNATIONAL TOP SPINNING DAY!

The page on the Burlington Spinning Top Museum (www.topmuseum.org/20.html) wants to get 10,000 tops spinning around the world. Let's make it happen!
They want you to email them a group photo saying how many tops were spun and the location. Also, don't forget to post your photos here  ;)

I contribute with 10 tops (simultaneously) or 0.1% towards the goal  ;)

Happy worldwide top spinning!  :)

I haven't taken more photos, but I have spun a couple dozen tops today, so that is what I'm going to notify the Top Museum.
The email address to do that (number of tops spun and the location) is thetopmuseum (AT) hotmail.com

PS: I went to a Lindy Hop dance class tonight and spun several women, but I don't think that counts  ;D

Spent International Top Spinning Day packing up some of my LEGO tops for a 2-day exhibition this weekend. Probably 200+ tops gathered here -- about 20% of my keepers. Twirled a few today, but all will get lots of play on Saturday and Sunday.

1st bin holds flying saucer tops on left and mostly gyrocyclotron tops on right. 2nd bin contains optically active tops -- color-mixing, B&W stroboscopic, and blacklight. 3rd bin contains large tops optimized for dynamic display on a variable-speed motorized spinning pedestal (stay tuned). 4th bin holds miscellaneous tops covering a wide range of designs. 5th bin contains more tops for the spinning pedestal. And 6th bin contains tops with internal moving parts -- centrifugal, coaxial, stacking, etc.

If the ladies fell over when they stopped spinning, I'd be willing to count them as tops.

I have a confession to make.  My life got very busy lately and I totally missed this big day!!!  I did spin some tops but I was not able to get behind it like I enjoy doing.  Hope everyone had a good day!
