ITSA has big plans this year. We will have the first post-pandemic in-person World Contest in Tokyo, Japan. It will also be the first in-person contest organized independently from the yo-yo contest and therefore optimized for our needs instead of being a side show. We also plan to hold an online world contest, which was so successful the last three years.
It's a dream of us to provide sponsorship to the best (non-Japanese) placing player(s) on the online contest to attend the in-person contest. It would be a fantastic motivation for players around the world.
Before the pandemic, raffles used to be the main source of funds for ITSA. The last one we had was on November 2019 (link (https://www.ta0.com/forum/index.php/topic,5951.msg63902.html#msg63902)). For this first raffle we had 4 prize donations:
Cyril donated a beautiful metal vintage Silver Top beer sign. The Duquesne Brewing Company was a major brewery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from its founding in 1899 until its dissolution in 1972. I found ads with the same "Give it a Whirl" tag from 1915 until 1949, but not after 1950.

Maurizio (Strummol8) is donating a new Elisabetta top, with the special long koma tip. He has made only 5 of these long tips. I'll put this photo until Maurizio sends me the actual one for the raffle (I won't be surprised if it also has a custom dye job):

Dick Stohr is donating a large 5" Watts top. Walter Watts started making these wooden tops in 1993 and his tops were the first non-custom large tops available to players that were good for trick play. This one has the traditional color scheme for which they are well known. He numbered each one: this is #290. A 5" top is quite large and lets you truly experience big top play.

Finally, I'm donating a vintage Double Doozer Whistler yo-yo/top. It works both as a yo-yo and a top. This is listed as #1620 on Lucky's Collectors Guide (pg. 160, 206). "It was the last yo-yo produced by Cheerio Toy in Canada. The Canadian yo-yo trademark trial resulted in Cheerio no longer being licensed to use the word yo-yo. Only one promotion is known to have taken place in Kitchener, Canada. This promotion was unsuccessful and no more Doozers were made." Like other Cheerios, it was actually made in Sweden (the country name is inscribed on the underside). Display stand is not included.

Some general considerations about the raffle.
There will be 100 tickets, $10 each.
The tickets will be available starting this Saturday, the 20th.
The drawing will be June 3rd, using the Texas lottery. If by June 2nd no more than 75 tickets are sold, we will extend the raffle one more week.
The first prize winner will be able to select anyone of the 4 available prizes. The second prize winner will select among the 3 remaining prizes, etc.
Because the maximum money that the raffle can raise is $1000 and the value of the prizes (not counting free shipping) is close to $600 (amazing ratio!), their availability will be conditional to selling enough tickets. If no more than 50 tickets are sold, only 2 prizes will be given out. If no more than 75 tickets are sold, only 3 prizes will be given out. If at least 76 tickets are sold, all 4 prizes will be available.
The money raised will go to the coffers of ITSA, a non-profit entity registered in the state of Texas, USA. We expect to use most or all of the money raised to help a/some player(s) that place well on the world online contest to participate in the in-person world contest. How exactly this is done will remain flexible as it depends a lot on the country and situation of the player(s). If it turns out this is not possible, the money will be used on other projects of ITSA, promoting top spinning around the world. Please, tell anybody who may be interested in the raffle.

RAFFLE RULES:
100 tickets from 00 to 99 at $10 each!
Tickets will be available for purchase starting Saturday, May 20th, until the drawing date, Monday June 5th.
The ticket numbers will be distributed in chronological order.
You will be notified of your ticket number(s) as soon as possible and the list of tickets sold will be posted periodically on this thread.
The closing time is 2 hours before the drawing.
The winners will be able to choose from ANY of the four prizes, in the order that the tickets are drawn. So the first winner will have 4 options, the second winner will have 3 options, etc.
1- Vintage metal Silver Top beer sign
2- Elisabetta Strummol8 top including long koma tip
3- 5" Watts top #290
4- Vintage Double Doozer Whister top/yo-yo
Payment
Send Paypal payments to treasurer@spintops.org. For example, a payment of $20 will be assigned two consecutive numbers. You do not need to have a Paypal account, you can also pay with credit cards on their website (www.paypal.com). Please, select "send money to a friend" so we are not charged the Paypal fee (for those in the US).
If you are in the US and prefer to pay by check, you can also do so (send me a pm or email to top (at) ta0.com for the address). Checks received after the closing time or after all the tickets have been sold will be destroyed without cashing.
Drawing
The first winning ticket will be determined as follows, based on the Texas Pick-3 game from the Texas Lottery, to be held on Monday June 5th at 10:00 AM CT. The official website for the game is: www.txlottery.org/export/sites/default/Games/Pick_3 where you can watch the drawing live. Note that there are 4 drawing per day and this would be the first one.
The FIRST TWO numbers of the drawing will form the digits of the winning number. If not all tickets are sold and there is no winner, the following drawing the same day will be used and so forth.
The following prizes will be determined in the same way by the following Pick-3 games after the previous prize has been won. There are 4 drawings per day so, if all tickets are sold, the 4 prizes will be given based on the Morning (10:00 AM CDT), Day (12:27 PM), Evening (6:00 PM) and Night (10:12 PM) Pick-3 drawings of June 5th.
For example if 95 tickets are sold (00-94) and the drawings are:
June 5th drawing: Pick-3 (morning): 6-7-6, Pick-3 (day): 4-5-1, Pick 3 (evening): 2-2-1, Pick 3 (night): 9-9-1 and June 6th (morning): 0-0-9, then the winners would be:
1st _ 67
2nd_ 45
3rd_ 22
4th_ 00
Low tickets sales rules:
If not more than 75 tickets are sold by noon, June 4th, the drawing will be postponed one week, until June 12th. At that point the drawing will go ahead, no matter how many tickets were sold.
If 50 or less tickets are sold, only two prizes will be given (the two winners will still be able to chose among the 4 prizes). If 75 or less tickets are sold, only 3 prizes will be given.

Well, this raffle started extremely slow. Hopefully interest will pick up soon.
We tried to get prizes for every taste: the latest performance top with special options (Elisabetta), a large (and a classic) playing top (Watts), a vintage rare yo-yo/top hybrid that will look great in any collection, and an antique cool sign perfect for the man cave (or home) of any lover of tops or beer. The total value of the prizes is around $600!
Even if you are not interested in any of the prizes (!), you can think of the $10 ticket as a donation towards the association and perhaps help some young and deserving player with the dream of competing in Tokyo!

I can't speak for the other 4 ticket buyers, but I am in favor of extending the time one week to get more sales.

We need to reach at least 51 to put 3 prizes on play. Right now, with 40 tickets sold and 2 prizes the chances of winning if you buy 2 tickets is 10% With 51 tickets and 3 prizes, about 18%. Not bad!

What you need to do is log to your Paypal account and go to Send Money. There you put the email address "treasurer@spintops.org." If it gives you the option of sending money to a friend, select that. If not just send to a business.
Mm, I guess we could do that. The chance of winning a prize out of 4 with 100 tickets and a prize out of 5 with 125 tickets are (almost) identical but, of course, there is one more happy winner and more funds raised. Let me think it a little bit.
