Lots of other activities, some a little scary:

The girl supporting Iago is "Sido" (one of several circus girls around) and she will be in the Figaro Gallery as she can throw tops pretty well.

Neither Figaro, nor Attila or Quentin got my permission to do this  ::) , but I like the result:

Ending at an even higher note at Guillem's place:

Actually, I think I was the only one who got hurt. I was throwing Figaro to do the "Friendship Top" at the end of the Festival and the rope got tangled on the tip and whipped me on the face. It left a nice red mark but fortunately it didn't hit me on the eye (I had vitreous detachment by a whiplash also at a previous trip to Mallorca).

The first place trophies in Open and Traditional were custom made by Guillem and Xisco (ITSA paid for them).

But the plates I had made were too large as the trophy shop assumed my dimensions were in inches even though I wrote cm.  ;D
Yahir was loaded with hardware, as we took the opportunity to give him on stage the online trophies (medallions) for winning the online contest in both open and traditional.

By the way, Yahir used a baldufa, made I think by Xisco, on his traditional freestyle. So baldufas dominated that division. Taka pointed out that baldufas played like this, and with tips designed for tricking, are not really traditional but a very recent development. But to me they are still traditional in spirit.

Children also had their Olympics on Saturday:

I was told that in the future the festival will be expanded to Friday and have then the kids competitions so that there is more time for the adult olympics on Saturday.

I would have nominated this photo for the photo contest, but the photographer is not a forum member and many of the players are:

On Sunday a group of us was about 7 hours on the beach of Port Pollença throwing tops. Here some are playing target to an upside down can:

A top or a heart? I think both. That's how I feel after meeting so many spin friends.

The rest of traditional I'll upload tomorrow.
Although the 4 judges put Yahir first, so it was unanimous, some judges put the three very close.

I had the impression that the general public was with Kanta. But the feedback from players (and the judges) was divided between Kanta and Jun. Two different styles of koma play.

All the freestyle videos are online. To watch them you can click on the names on the results list:

Jun

Thank you for all people who devoted themselves for this event!
I hope that I will go to Spain again with a lot of Japanese children.

Where can we see the results in detail?

Here are the judges' raw score sheets: link

Perhaps one of the most fun activities I ever had with tops was passing the top while imitating a traditional dance at a live music event at the main plaza of Port Pollença. Some German tourists thought we were doing a traditional activity from the region and were filming us  >:D

By the way, the guy dancing behind Quentin is Marco, a friend of Rocco and a new Figaro Gallery inductee.

Walking along Port Pollença with Jun, Nobu, Yahir, Quentin, Rocco and Gianni gave me flashbacks of Tokyo.

Salut à tous

thank you very much for all the photos
and comments

about the compétitions :

for the world title, the margin between Jun  and Kanta is really thin, both of them produce such a strong routine !
one critic.. to me
the frame of the videos is not optimum,
and often it would be necessary to have a second camera

next time we need the appropriate material and operator

about the traditional freestyles
the 3 top players perform with a "traditional" top, however the moves are so similar to the open category that I wonder if should not question the interest of having this category for the in person contest
in the on-line  competition , the " traditional" ingredients are a lot more visible and managable example Rocco at home ,
the Colombians blocking a street, the chonkake with costume and open air scenary

to be debated
thanx again to all participants

I agree with your comments, Jim.

The camera is low because there was a problem with the tripod at the last moment, so it's on the judges table. With no operator we needed a large field of view not to lose any action. I should have asked a volunteer to man the camera and follow the action.

Yes, there were many discussions about what the Traditional division should be. It was originally created to make Colombian Trompos and later Chonkakegoma competitive. But the Mallorcan Baldufas changed the paradigm. Taka has several ideas about it. We should continue discussing it.

thanx Jun for these VDOs
it is a lot more comfortable to watch

I wonder what that blue top Yahir is using
??

the debate over traditional remains open

the players use exactly the same moves as in the open  except for just a few tricks

wheras hard wood / traditional tops were meant to be used differently
example the body corkscrew...

good day
