Mexican Nationals
« on: September 06, 2023, 09:50:38 AM »

As announced on the Spanish section, on September 30th Marco is hosting a spintop festival and the Mexican nationals.

This will be the first official Mexican nationals. It has been a long dream of us. In the past it has been difficult to unite the different Mexican spintop companies because of the fierce competition in the market. Fortunately, at least 5 companies have agreed to participate: Super Trompo, Trompos Alien, Trompo Champions (5 Estrellas), Chido Trompo and Trompos Cuper. Trompos Cometa said it's main players will be in Europe at the time but it's owner wished us good luck with the contest. I strongly believe that this will benefit all the companies by promoting top play in Mexico, as "a rising tide lifts all boats."

Taka and I will be judges, together with Mexican spintop pioneer Eduardo Zentella and others. Notable players competing include Yahir and Salvador Martinez.
There will be 3 divisions: open freestyle, traditional freestyle and "picotazo" (striking battle).

The festival will be fun. There will be Spintop Olympics (like in the Mallorca festival). There will be an exhibition of indigenous spintop play. Trompos Cuper is donating 5,000 spintops so we can expect lots of children.

You are all invited to attend (flights from the south of the US are cheaper than between the US east and west coasts). The location is the city of Zapopan, which is part of the Guadalajara metropolitan area (you fly to GDL airport). If you are coming from out of the country Cuper will find you lodging.

September 30th, in two weeks. I'll be there, so there will be a good report.  ;)

I was picked-up at the airport by Cuper, his son David, Victor (a Mexican living in Italy) and Taka. We had an intense day that ended with 3 dinners at different places!
This is Taka performing at a very exclusive private club:

We picked up the trophies from the workshop of a very accomplished sculptor, went to a TV station and ended up meeting  the team Trompo Chido, that includes Yahir and Braham. The kids are more than incredible. They blew my mind. Today the youth contest will be amazing.

The last dinner, with Trompo Chido, was at a taco place called El Trompo

Wow, that’s the way to do a top contest! Looks like tons of fun.
I hope a source comes available to get more of the Mexican tops in North America.

I took the opportunity to give in person the awards for the online contest to the Mexican players, plus Nobu's 2nd place to Taka (his dad). Here is Yahir with all his hardware,  plus Monse (co-owner of Trompos Chido), Taka and me.

The weather was very nice and we had 1500 to 2000 kids in the Trompopan Festival. They all got free mini Cuper tops

The event took place at a large park with modern facilities called Park of the Girls and Boys  (Parque de las niñas y los niños). Marco went over the top in several things, like obtaining 6 giants tops from a museum for decorating the stage:

I hear he had to insure them for $100k. Once I was getting on stage and grab one of the supports by mistake and almost tip it off the stage!
