Scovie website
« on: September 21, 2022, 09:53:55 PM »

I stumbled on the Scovie name a while back but forgot to post about it.  Of course, I am not talking about the Scovie line of firey foods and barbecue products.  I am talking about the Scovie line of precision turning.  Most specifically, they have a page with the title of “Scovie Tops” and it goes on to say “precision spinning tops and other turned toys, widgets and gadgets.”  Has anyone else run across any of this?

I see it's an EDC type top manufacturer. No, I'm not familiar with them (I'm sure Princess Trouble is).

An unusual propeller top from them:

Love the propeller.  These people are interested in tops.  They have lots of other information on this site…like a list of movies featuring tops.

And they also have a list of top museums around the globe.  What a surprise it was when I found myself in one of the pictures!!!

It's a weird feeling to find one's picture on a website one didn't expect. It has happened to me. I guess we are micro (but also "top") celebrities  ;D
But that photo is really nice, snowing included, so I'm not surprised it was used:

Of the 5 spintop related movies listed, I've seen the first 3 and I don't consider the last one to be a top movie. The fourth one, The Secret of Crickley Hall, I would in principle have wanted to watch. But the description is not very appealing:  "One of the heartbreaking moments is when the movie shows an abused orphan spinning a top while he waits to be rescued, though the audience knows the rescue isn’t coming." I might pass on this one.
