Modular wooden top?
« on: August 08, 2022, 03:02:04 PM »

Just to show how top-obsessed I've become -- in no small part thanks to this forum:

Downsizing means lots of stuff to dispose of, and not much time to do it in. Really need ruthless snap judgments now, but I still struggle to let go of things that call to me as potential top parts. Like these leftover wooden buttons sold as bolt covers:

Visions of top rotors built up from these buttons dance in my head. Many possible 2D and 3D arrangements for finger tops alone. With LEGO stems, hubs, and tips added as needed.

Not sure how I'll pull off the precision gluing and drilling required, but I can figure that out when I rediscover these buttons in some moving box months from now. The geometry will be fun.

Downsizing means lots of stuff to dispose of...

You know you will later need the stuff you got rid of.  It's a law of nature.

It's not worth doing if you're not obsessed about it.

Right, its a law of nature, but actually this is just the way to say it in a special set of circumstances, the law in its most general wording is called "Murphy's Law".

Inescapable. And now that we're starting renovations on our new house, I also need lots of things still in storage 1,100 miles away in Denver.

Right, its a law of nature, but actually this is just the way to say it in a special set of circumstances, the law in its most general wording is called "Murphy's Law".

The more applicable law in my case is Gumperson's: The least likely contingency will always occur at the most inopportune time.

And there's no way around it per Gumperson's Corollary: All attempts to circumvent Gumperson's Law are themselves subject to Gumperson's Law.

Of course, all these laws are just recognitions of the fundamental perversity of Nature.
