No, not many tops around here, if I remember correctly, this topic started in the NSTR section. The only type of top I saw, was the one I show below. Bought it in a street market, comes almost certainly from China.

I have several versions of that one, and I think they are great! They generally have in addition of the line of LEDs, one diode laser that makes a circle on the ground (I think your duck has it but it might need a darker room to show).

The first version of the concept I saw were wooden whip tops from China, 10 to 15 years ago, cheaply made, hollowed and hand stuffed with the electronics and hot glue. I was surprised they would a put laser diode on them, but I guess they had many surplus rejects that they needed to use for something. Those tops didn't have music. Later I got a nice aluminum Chinese whip top with the same light show, but I don't know which came first. The tops must have sold very well, because they started to make them out of plastic, and later replaced the whip top by spring started tops with music and lots of different shapes. I still see them in the supermarkets around here. After Beyblades, probably the most successful commercial top in recent times.

... a stop over on the way home in the city of Györ, Hungary.
I wanted to send greetings to Attila while here in Hungary, but I don't have his phone number, since he does not seem to be in the Marines WhatsApp group.

Contacting Attila has always been difficult for me.

I was bummed when worlds in Budapest was canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic. I have not yet visited Hungary.

The word Györ reminded me gyro, so I looked it up with google translate. I found out that without the umlaut (two dots) on the o, the word "gyor" means "fast" in Hungarian.

This coat of arms I made a picture of could be interpreted around here as a depiction of a top.
But I am quite sure it is meant to show tools of masons: compass and plummet.

Great find, Ortwin!

I agree with you, that is probably a plumb bob. Although it does look very much like a top . . .

Were is it located?

Were is it located?
Actually it is located in about five houses down the road from the exact place where I was born in that little town in Transilvania.

edit: I just discovered that house is visible in Google street view here.

Looks like a beautiful place, Maurizio.

Do you want to enter the second photo on this year's photo contest?
