National Mustard Day - August 7th
« on: August 06, 2021, 04:00:22 PM »

USA Today newspaper is reporting that August 7th is National Mustard Day.  Sounds like some special mustard buns are coming out for the day in selected cities including NYC, LA, Chicago, Baltimore and Boston.  Miamisburg is not on the list but that’s ok since we will be spinning the tops of mustard containers from Don Olney’s collection.  Got any mustard containers you want to spin?

As Charles Dickens would no doubt have put it,

Quote
And it was always said of the Earl of Whirl, that he knew how to keep Mustard Day well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tricky ta0 observed, Gyra bless Us, Every One!

Gyra, of course, being the enchanting Goddess of Spin.

I remember that Don had a bunch of mustard container caps that worked very well as tops. I don't think I kept any, but I'm sure you did, Mike. We need a picture. A thread where the biggest photo is a hot dog looks NSTR to me . . .

Yes, I spin them palm up and from near the point.  I have never tried them the other way.  I will have to experiment with that!!!

I called Don Olney to inform him about National Mustard Day.  He seemed humored by it.  He said he sent all the mustard container tops to me so he could not participate.  I told him he had a year to eat more mustard and to be prepared for the 2022 NMD.  I remember when he first told everyone in a workshop about spinning mustard container tops.  It was in Rapid City, South Dakota.  I can still remember the room:  It was on the second floor of the convention hall, just to the right of the stairs.  I can still see a young Steve Brown there!!!  I could not be certain about the year so I looked it up.  It was 1996.  Sadly we have missed a lot of mustard days along the way.
